My barbarian was given a helm that grants her +2 to all slashing damage, as well as advantage on intimidation checks. The advantage was simple enough, but I cannot for the life of me figure out a way to add a specific damage bonus via an item. Is it even possible, or will I have to manually add +2 to every slashing item I pick up from now on?

You'll have to add it manually. The homebrew system mimics real magic items, and to my knowledge there isn't an item that specifically gives more damage to slashing types only.
I am guessing, based on this, that my shiny new custom feat which gives her +2 str and double rage damage whenever she rages is also just a distant dream? Because that one I didn't even bother to make an attempt at hahah!

That one is probably more doable? Having a feat give +2 STR is easy, and making a non attunement item you could just call "RAGE" that gives Damage - Melee Weapon Attacks a fixed modifier based on STR seems like the trick? Just have to remember to unequip it after your rages end.

Be aware, though, that that's a massively overpowered feat. +1 STR and double rage damage would be fine, but no feat can give a +2, because to take a feat is to sacrifice either a +2 or two +1's that you get from a standard ASI. Making the feat +2 and something else is not how feats work. If your DM and fellow players are cool with it, then cool, it doesn't affect any of us. But it really is very OP.
On the DDB homebrewing aspect of it, though... you could just add a bonus damage that scales with level. I'm not sure exactly how you'd set it up, but I think it would be doable.

Hi!

Aw dangit. Thankyou for the reply! I will soldier on, dealing with this *massive* inconvenience 😉
lol, yeah, it sucks but it's pretty easy to do. You just have to remember if you ever lose the item to remove the manual weapon customizations.

That's genius! Idunno why I was so set on it having to be a feat, I'll do this, thank you!
