In fiction there are a ton of spells that involve multiple casters, particularly ritual ones.
I came up with this House Rule, and was wondering what people thought of it:
Any magic user that knows a spell can ready an action to cast it "Coordinated" with another magic user casting the spell, as long as all coordinated magic users are within a 30 ft radius sphere. A single 'main' caster (within the 30 ft radius area) then casts normally with the other casters activating their readied action. When coordinating casting, if the spell has an area of effect, each coordinated casting must be contiguous with the area set by the 'main' caster.
For every caster that readied an action, all spells are upcast by 1 spell slot while using a normal spell slot, to a maximum equivalent of a 10th level slot. So 14 casters casting on top of the main caster, would upcast a magic missile as if it were cast using a 10th level slot. Effectively each caster makes 3 +9 =12 darts, for a total of 12 * 15 = 180 darts, rather than the 3*15=45 they normally would cast.
Note, as always, when you ready a spell it requires concentration from your initiative until you cast it (on the main caster's turn). A fireball centered on the main caster will require everyone coordinated caster whose turn has already occured to roll a concentration check, possibly ending their spell early, wasting the slot and preventing the upcasting.
