A member of my party is a cleric of Sehanine Moonbow. I was looking into artefacts related to her and found the Moontear, but woefully little information on it. All that's noted is that it has been stolen by drow, sought after by an adventuring company, and was wielded by a demon lieutenant. So, I wanted to incorporate it into my game where the item is effectively traumatised. It has been exploited and without a true home for ages now. This allows the item to "level up" à la Fizban's hoard items. Here are the effects I have for its current, lowest level:
Moontear (New Moon)
Wondrous item, artifact, requires attunement
It is said that Sehanine Moonbow shed a single tear for the gods that fell during the Time of Troubles. Over the years the Moontear has been sought by individuals and groups - good and evil - who aimed to use its power. Now found, it is revealed that this item is a shadow of its former self. Its sapphire surface is in poor condition, lacking its previous lustre. The gentle, silvery moonlight it once shone with is now no brighter than a dying candle.
New Moon. The Moontear is currently reduced in its power. It has the following properties.
Random Properties. The Moon tear has the following random properties:
1 minor beneficial property
Moonlight. The Moontear emits 5 feet of dim light.
Spells. The Moontear has 5 charges. While attuned to it, you can spend an action and expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the following spells (save DC 16)
Sentience. The Moontear is a sentient, chaotic good item with an intelligence of 15, Wisdom of 16, and Charisma of 13. It has hearing and darkvision out to 30 ft. The Moontear communicates by transmitting emotion to the creature carrying it.
Personality. The Moontear currently appears near dormant. It does not attempt to communicate or respond positively or negatively to creatures. The only remaining indication of its sentience is the flickering of its silver candlelight.
