I think a tag would be helpful. There's definitely a different "feel" for joke homebrews... I'm reminded of the Un-sets from Magic the Gathering, which are often terribly unbalanced or deliberately broken in a silly way. But they're also very clearly marked with a silver border so you can tell easily if someone is playing with them.
In fact I'd go one step further and would like to see the ability to enter custom tags; these would be hidden from public homebrew by default (but remain visible in your private collection) but could be reviewed periodically to see what tags users are commonly putting onto their homebrew to see if there's anything useful that is missing. That way the mods could periodically make common tags public so they become searchable in public homebrew as well. But it would also enable us to tag homebrew for a particular campaign or such without having to add it to the name (which is messy, and has to be removed to publish if you decide to later).
The addition of the tag though would also require the ability to exclude tags in searches; currently we only have inclusive searches, so we could search for joke items, but wouldn't be able to search only for non-joke items, so that needs addressing as well.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Yeah joke brews are generally not very funny, clever, or balanced so I'd like to be able to filter them out. We have about a billion monster entries called "DM", for example.

Joke/Meme Homebrews should have their own section or tag.
Homebrew: Creatures | Magic Items | Races | Spells | Subclasses

And now you too can play with the amazing art and assets we use in Roll20 for our campaign at Hazel's Emporium
I'd very much like a tag.
