Hello all. I have been working on a homebrew martial class for 5e which I am calling the strategist.
A little backstory. Back when I was first getting into D&D several years ago, I wanted to make a Detective character, and my DM was willing to let me homebrew a class from scratch to fit that goal. This was also before I had seen anything from Xanathar's or SCAG for Mastermind and Inquisitive rogues, so I had no idea those options were available, but there was alot of overlap to say the least. Now, since I was still new to D&D, the homebrew was what we in the business call hot garbage.
Recently, I have been wanting to try and revamp this homebrew into something unique. I have tried to redesign it as a "support martial" character. I have heard this sort of class existed in earlier editions as The Warlord, but I am not overly familiar with it. What I have designed I think lies somewhere between a rogue and a battlemaster fighter, with alot of its kit dedicated to maneuvering and aiding allies as opposed to enhancing their own abilities. I have also designed 3 subclasses for it based on some of my original designs: The Spiritualist, The Tracker, and The Vigilante.
Have to say, a lot of the ideas presented here are brilliant. Might end up using this class in a campaign, if my DM lets me. I really don't have anything negative to say about it, great job!
