Taking inspiration from many Disney Films and Broadway Musicals in which people within those worlds seem to randomly break out into song and dance, I wanted to craft a spell that would allow a bard (or wizard) to magically influence those around them with song. The goal here is to allow the caster (and any charismatic allies) to turn their Charisma and ability to perform into magical supernatural feats. Making an Athletics Check? Sing about where you draw strength from in life and use Charisma instead! Making an attack roll? Make use of intricate choreography and use Charisma instead! Big brute about to hit you with their club? Make them sing about their feelings and potentially throw them off by forcing them to use Charisma! Let me know what you think
Otto’s Musical ActInfectious Melody
3rd-level enchantment (bard, wizard)
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: Self(10-foot sphere)
Components: V
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You begin to sing a jaunty tune, and an enchanting energy extends from you in an aura with a 10 foot radius, with willing creatures within the aura joining in on the song. Such a creature can choose to use its Charisma modifier in place of another ability score for an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw it makes; however, a creature cannot replace an ability score this way more than once per turn.
Additionally, when another creature within the aura makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your reaction to attempt to force it to participate in the song. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target must use its Charisma modifier in place of its other ability score for that roll.
A creature within the aura cannot benefit from its effect A creature cannot willingly be affected by this spell if it is prevented from speaking or singing, such as if it is holding its breath or otherwise silenced.
At Higher Levels: When cast using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the aura’s radius extends by 5 feet for each level above 3rd.
In keeping with the naming convention of Otto's better-known spell, maybe call it Otto's Infectious Melody or something like that

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
Brilliant! Does the bit about holding your breath mean that an enemy could avoid the negative effect that way, at the risk of suffocation?
Thats a good question, I did not think of that. I may change the last line to "A creature cannot willingly be affected by this spell..." so that it only affects those who are choosing to participate in the song. In the same way, there may be a niche use for this spell to force an unwilling creature to sing while they are underwater or something, potentially causing suffocation.
Will need to think on it more
