seem way too powerful to me, in addition to all the elf base things, you get fire resistance (which is very good given fire damage come up often) and you also gain a feat (gaining a feat as a race is something huge) even if it's limited on one kind of terrain.
Personally, I would've kept the fire resistance, or at least have an extreme environment snippet in there like the pre-ice wind dale goliaths but for extreme heat, preferring the latter for elves. The feat is a must go, I've never agreed with class features, or races granting feats (with the exception of variant human). You can even maybe have a snippet about having advantage on checks to determine if something is an illusion or not via overcoming mirages.
A homebrew Desert Elf is from this link: Desert Elf (5e Subrace) - D&D Wiki (dandwiki.com), I would say: add automatic succeeding on Constitution saves against harsh weather conditions, and you only need to drink one gallon of water in hot climates. Suits the theme
:)

three ways
1) Remove the keen culture trait and done. This is stronger than 2) and 3) but very balanced
2) Remove the fire resistance and alert feat. This is weaker than 1) and 3) but also very balanced
3) do step 2) and then something similiar to the ranger's natural explorer feature with desert terrain. This is the most balanced IMO
Isn't the 3rd way also op?
No since it doesn't have fire resistance and the alert feat it has a lot of room to move around
How is this?
