- Taking a Short Rest restores your Con modifier worth of Hit Die (minimum of 1). You can benefit from this feature once before taking a long rest.
- You cannot restore more than your maximum number of Hit Die during any given rest.
- Any Hit Die spent during a Rest are max rolled. Ex. A Barbarian that would normally roll 1d12+4 would simply gain 16 hp healed.
- Any Feat, spell or class feature that modifies or adds to Resting health instead restores +1 Hit Die. Ex. Bard’s Song of Rest. Previous rules still apply.
- HP restored via a Healer’s kit, during a Rest, is max rolled.

Healing:
The premise of the healing revamp is to not have a healer *required* but still provide an advantage to parties if so chosen and in doing so free spell slots for other spell casting options.
The idea is to make Cure Wounds a Cantrip which a.) scales to Hit Die consumed and b.) cannot be cast as a bonus action.Cast with 0 Hit Die consumed it serves the function of Spare the Dying.For every HD consumed the healer restores 1d8+Casting Mod of HP.You cannot consume more HD than spell levels you are capable of casting.
So, for example, a 5th level Cleric could cast Cure Wounds and restore up to 3d8+12 (assuming 18 Wis) HP, costing the *PLAYER BEING HEALED* 3 Hit Die (HD).This creates a finite pool of healing per individual but a comparable potential healing pool for the healer/group overall.
Included is some math laying out the two systems for comparison.
CURRENT WAY:
Assuming 20 Wis & 18th lvl caster for max lvl 1-5 healing potential since spells post lvl 5 out heal Cure Wounds.
5 man 18th lvl party, Average HD: d8 & Average Con: 14.
*Cure Wounds*
46d8 =Min 46 / Max 368
Bonus (+5 per spell cast) = 80
Total = 126 to 448
Avg = 264
In addition...
*Resting*
18d8 = Min 18 / Max 144
Bonus (+2 per die) = 36
Total = 54 to 180
Avg = 108 per Member or 540 Group
—————
Grand Total = Avg 804 healing per day
Cure Wounds 33% of total healing
NEW WAY:
Short Rest restores your Con modifier worth of HD & max roll to die spent “resting”.
Assuming 20 Wis & 18th lvl caster.
5 man 18th lvl party, Average HD: d8 & Average Con 14.
*All HD spent via Cure Wounds*
20d8 = Min 20 / Max 160
Bonus (+5 per die) = 100
Total = 120 to 260
Avg = 180 per Member or 900 Group
Approx 12% gain vs. Current System
Or
*All HD spent via Rested Healing*
20d8 = Min/Max 160
Bonus (+2 per die) = 40
Total = 200 per Member or 1000 Group
Approx 19% gain vs. Current System
** New Way doesn’t take into account any healing done from other healing spells (ie Healing Word) but does account for HD restored from short rest.

2nd Example for lower level group:
———————————————————
CURRENT WAY:
Assuming 18 Wis & 9th lvl caster to better represent current party make up.
5 man 9th lvl party, Average HD: d8 & Average Con: 14
*Cure Wounds*
36d8 =Min 36 / Max 288
Bonus (+4 per spell cast) = 56
Total = 92 to 344
Avg = 200

9d8 = Min 9 / Max 72
Bonus (+2 per die) = 18

Less than 5% loss vs. Current System
Or
