I'm working on a homebrew subclass (for Warlock, but the idea could be portable) and I'm trying to create a feature that mimics the Monk’s Martial Arts die progression, but applied to a weapon bonded through Pact of the Blade or the Hexblade feature.
The goal is to allow the weapon’s base damage die to scale as the character levels up—similar to how a Monk’s unarmed strikes or monk weapons go from 1d4 to 1d10. Ideally, I’d like this to override the weapon's normal damage die when it's used as a pact or hex weapon, assuming it meets any additional requirements I build in (like being imbued or tied to a specific patron theme).
Example:
Say I’m using a dagger (normally 1d4 damage). Once this dagger is designated as my Pact Weapon, and I gain this subclass feature, it would now scale with something like a custom “Witchblade Die” or “Whispering Weapon Die”:
Levels 1–4: 1d4
Levels 5–10: 1d6
Levels 11–16: 1d8
Levels 17–20: 1d10
So that dagger now deals 1d6 at level 5, 1d8 at 11, and so on—regardless of its original damage die. Still piercing (or whatever its normal damage type is), just with a larger die.
Is that even possible? if so, how should I approach it?
Oh well that's a bummer. I do appreciate the suggestion, because what you're saying it sounds a lot more elegant than me creating a bunch of bunch of Homebrew daggers that need to be swapped out as you level.

Hey folks,

Not possible, you could create a custom attack that scales, but you cannot link that to a Pact/Hex weapon.
