I am looking to add modifiers for being in certain terrain(s), for instance having disadvantage to attack rolls in swampy and coastal terrain or a double proficiency bonus to survival checks in desert terrain. I have been struggling to figure out the best way to add this to homebrew races, subclasses or feats - if it is even possible. Anyone have any luck with this one?

D&D Beyond has no means of identifying terrain as this is not a virtual tabletop and there are no map-based features.
When you make racial traits and feats you can create modifiers for giving advantage or disadvantage to things. You can use this to detail advantages or disadvantages to attack rolls and in the "description" or "restrictions" box for that modifier describe that the advantage/disadvantage only applies when in certain terrains. Pretty much any modifier has this text box and the information will be displayed on the character sheet.
