Hey there, just wondering if anyone has any ideas to rebalance winged tieflings? They are really cool, and fun to play, but they are WAY to overpowered in comparison to base tieflings or other winged species such as aarakocra. The problem is that their hellish resistance is really good is addition to +2 charisma and +1 intelligence, but removing the hellish resistance would make them too weak.
haha, okay. But Yaun-ti did get rebalanced! Look at MMtM. I think winged tieflings need a rebalance too! They are really cool, but they appeared in a tiny blurb in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, and it proably wasn't given much thought

How about limited flight? If you want winged Tieflings, but without them zooming around the skies, maybe they have a fly speed equal to their movement speed, but they have to land at the end of their turns.
Maybe give them a racial feat they can take at an ASI level that gives them a true fly speed for 10 minutes, once per long rest, so with the feat, they can actually be flying around without constantly landing for the duration of the ability.
Honestly, I’m far to happy with my old races to see them possibly redone and made worse. To your point, I chose Variant Feral Tiefling for my Barbarian because of its limit for flight being medium armor, which was the limit to what I could wear anyway. My favorite race/species is the Verdan from the free Acquisitions Incorporated bundle since I liked Goblins from World of Warcraft but not the feral Goblins from DnD.

Not everything needs to be balanced, you know. Signed, a Yuan-ti pureblood player.
Dream job: being one of those creatures who don't interact with the economy at all yet are somehow obscenely rich.

I'd just restrict flight to when they're wearing no/light armor to bring it in line with aarakacra and fairies.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
in 2024 players handbook, aasimar's can fly once per long rest, for 1 minute.
Dragonborn can fly one per long rest, for 10 minutes.
just use that.
