Replace Damage Type, not working

I'm trying to change the Damage Type on a Shortsword from Piercing to Slashing, but the modification isn't showing up when I look up the item on the character sheet. All I'm doing is adding a Replace Damage Type: Slashing modifier. I remember doing the same thing with a Rapier a while back and it did work, but now it just doesn't.
