I’m trying to create a animistic shaman-style class. Here’s what I have in mind;
1.) Drop wild shape to an alter self like spell to create natural weapons in order to expand spells known with a list I had my DM approve of, but I don’t want any of the expanded spells to always be prepared as I think it would be a bit too much.
2.) Change the Archdruid feature because I’m basically doing away with wild shape.
3.) Add a spirit guide that functions similarly to a familiar from the find familiar spell, but it’s incorporeal so it’s ethereal and generally can’t interact directly with the physical realm. Exceptions being when the Shaman channels concentration into it for spell casting (so the familar becomes vulnerable to reactions) and when the Shaman wants to prove to people his friend isn’t of the imaginary variety.
4.) Base the other features on the Shepard circle.
Presently I have a few snags; druid base class features can’t be removed (??); I’m not sure if I have the alter-self thing worked out yet but I think it’ll get worked out eventually; I can’t seem to find a way to expand the known spells list without the additional spells being automatically prepared and on a related note I intended for the expanded list to be available from level 1 but you have to be level 2 to choose a circle (the subclass.)
Any thoughts on not being able to remove base class features welcome, but more than that does anyone have a suggestion of what to do about the additional spells known issues?
