So me and a friend are working on making a bard who tells stories instead of plays music. The working title is College of Legends or College of Tales. This is what we have so far:
3rd level/core subclass feature: A book, sort of like a wizard's spellbook, that they can use to cAlthinking of adding spells like tongues, fear, suggestion etc. This book would also give them advantage on History or Performance checks.
6th level feature: Inspiring Tales, a feature that merges the Inspiring Leader feat with the bard's song of rest. So, extra temp hit points or maybe free bardic inspiration if you spend your short rest telling your companions a story.
And that's it for now! Any advice or constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
Every official bard subclass has a third level feature that enhances the bardic inspiration in some way, usually giving it a new way to use it. I can't think of any storytelling related abilities for this, except maybe something similar to the UA College of Spirits' ability.
Be careful of using feats as features or the inspiration for features. If a feat has multiple parts to it and your feature only grants some of them, and they won't stack, it discourages using that feat even if a player might have wanted to.
Good point about the bardic inspiration. Thanks! I think I'll do something where you can boost the spell save DC of your ritual enchantment spells by one roll of your bardic inspiration die
One thing I just thought of is an ability like "your stories are so captivating people think they are real" and you can replicate any illusion spell from the bard spell list. It can only be used x times per long rest
