So, I'm going to be cataloging my homebrew world, which is named Aberixia, on this thread, and I'm basically just writing down how I'm running my world. I'm doing this for two reasons. Firstly, so I'll have a record of the world, if I ever need one. Secondly, so if anyone else wants to use it, they can.(Alternatively, you might think the world dis horrible and mistake ridden. If you do, feel free to let me know what you think is wrong with it. It will help me when I make my next world. To moderators and staff, I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to make threads about a world, but if you want to delete the thread, please give me an advance warning so I can put my writing on paper and save the records of the world.
First off, I'm going to post the religious pantheon. I used a combination of the Norse gods, an Egyptian goddess, 2 homebrew god(esses), and published gods.
There are three different groups of gods, each claiming dominion over a different aspect of nature. The first claims dominion over the seas, the second the ground, which includes the Underdark and the Underworlds. The third pantheon claims dominion over the sky and the Heavens.
They look like this:
Water Pantheon
Name Alignment Suggested Domains Symbol
Halkana, lord of whirlpools and merfolk CG Knowledge, Nature, Tempest A merfolk's head in profile
Sekolah, sahaguin god of the hunt LE Nature, Tempest Shark
Thor, god of storms and thunder CN Tempest, War Hammer
Ground Pantheon

Lolth, drow goddess of spiders CE Trickery Spider
Ulaa, goddess of hills and mountains LG Life, War Mountain with a circle at its heart
Hel, goddess of the underworld NE Death Woman's face, rotting on one side/Ankh and star
Nephthys, goddess of death and grief CG Death Horns around a lunar disk
Sky Pantheon

Sorlad, goddess of fate and moonlight LN Knowledge, Nature A full moon, with a large eye in the center
Sirrion, god of fire and change N Nature Multi-colored fire
Frey, god of fertility and the sun NG Life, Light Ice-blue greatsword
The Norse and Egyptian deities in Aberixia are new, having been conjured out of the Weave two centuries ago by a mysterious force steeped in magical energy. The new gods are powerful, but still only Lesser Deities that live on the Material Plane. (see Dungeon Master's Guide, pg. 11) The other gods are ancient Greater Deities that have been around since the world was young. In the cases of the gods of the ground and sea, the ancient beings are of directly opposite alignments, and their domains are kept in a sort of paradoxical balance, with neither deity growing powerful enough to supplant the other. In the case of the Sky gods, it is more of a collaboration, as the gods are both neutral, and they keep the skies running smoothly, and more predictably, than the erratic earthquakes and raging hurricanes brought on by the power struggles of the feuding deities.
Well, that's the overview of the pantheon. My next posts will go into more detail on the three different groups, one at a time.
"In the beginning, there was water. Life was with the water, and the water and the life loved, and there was Halkana."
The Beginning, Atlantis Library
Halkana was the first of the deities, and he is the most powerful. He was formed out of the pure magic in the water, and the magic of the beings that swam there. But there can not be life without death, and from that death came Sekolah. She tuned the sharks, peaceful creatures like the rest of the wildlife, into bloodthirsty scions of her will. Over time, some of the sharks evolved, gaining a humanoid form, increased intelligence, and limited amphibiousness, in order to better serve Sekolah's will. They became the sahaguin, or 'sea devils,' as ancient sailors aptly called them. Sekolah and her spawn battled Halkana and the life he represented for millennia. Sekolah realized that she could not win through strength or manpower, but resolved to triumph through cunning. She stopped her assault, and the seas were calm. In the centuries after the war, Halkana let his guard down and relaxed, believing Sekolah to be dead, or with so few followers that she was unable to keep up the war. This proved to be a near-fatal mistake for him. Sekolah's high priestesses invoked powerful magic that sent Halkana into a deep slumber. The humans that lived on the island citadel of Atlantis were Halkana's most devoted disciples, and they searched frantically for a way to counter Sekolah's powerful magic, Sekolah launched a full-scale assault and siege of Atlantis. The leader of the island, a powerful Warlock, managed to wake Halkana, and prayed to him for help, as the city's time was running out. Sekolah and her spawn battled Halkana and the life he represented for millennia.
In that time, the gods of the sky came, and opened the heavens to the good and noble people that died in and out of the war. The bodies on both sides piled up, and they were suffused with magical energy from the sky goddess Sorlad, who saw the future and knew that it needed to be done. The bodies were magically transmuted into land, and over time, animals emerged, and then sentient life, and with them, new divinities. These gods opened the Underworld for the treacherous and wicked, souls that were denied entrance to the heavens.

Interesting so far. I'm trying to build my own world first time now as well, but I've totally skipped deities, so I'll need to redraw. I'm following along to see how your world goes.

And that's it with the pantheons. In my next posts, I'll go into the two main population centers of this world, the cities of Aberixia and Atlantis.
