So I know the best way to find out for sure is to play test, but I’m wondering if someone wouldn’t mind taking a gander at this concept and letting me know if it sounds like too much? It’s very rough right now, as you can tell because I didn’t bother renaming the traits I stole from other races. So don’t mind the names or lack of proper formatting, I’m just concerned about the traits together.

Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity, Strength, and an ability of your choosing increase by 1.
Age
Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.
Alignment
Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others’ freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not. The drow are an exception; their exile into the Underdark has made them vicious and dangerous. Drow are more often evil than not.
Size
Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Darkvision
Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Skilled
An Aereni elf can choose one skill or tool proficiency.
Dwarven Toughness
Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.
Martial Training
You are proficient with two martial weapons of your choice and with light armor.
Trance
Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.

So this is a new type of dark elf type I’m playing with. I don’t believe this will have subraces. I gave them Fleet of Foot but just incorporated it into their base speed. I replaced the Fey Ancestry with Dwarven Toughness, and the proficiency with perception into the Aereni elf’s skill proficiency trait - just minus the doubled bonus part. I also changed out elven weapon training for the hobgoblin’s martial training. I’m not so sure of these things together feels like too much though. So I thought I’d ask people smarter than I on the subject to maybe provide some insight if possible!
So this is basically an Aereni Wood Elf with the following changes:
Removed +2 DEX, +1 WIS
Removed Fey ancestry
Removed keen senses
Removed mask of the wild
Weakened Aereni Elf, removing double proficiency
Added +1 STR, +1 DEX, +1 Any
Added dwarven toughness
Added martial training
Honestly, if you can pick 3 between dwarven toughness, fleet of foot, martial training, and choose skill/tool, this could just be an elf subrace that replaces ASI.
I don't like the idea of removing Fey ancestry, but keeping trance.
Okay, so I changed some things around. Now it’s basicslly just an elven variant based on the Aereni Wood Elf. I feel better about this one.
I took away Martial Training and gave back Fey Ancestry to more closely connect them back to elves. I also replaced Keen senses with Athletics proficiency.

It has the same amount of things as the regular Aereni Wood Elf, but I dunno if this combination is over powered or anything.
And the language still hasn’t been modified, so pay no mind to that.
