This is the story and lore of my homebrew world that my players and I concocted last year. Currently, it has had one campaign run through it that ended with too much to do with not enough time, therefore the great enemy completed his goals.
The Beginning...
The world is made of a number of continents; Erathys, Ferrion, Palikon, Tauwin, Elaysien, and Abadith. At the beginning the primordials were commissioned to create this planet and material plane by the Gods as a side project. Eventually the gods turned their attention to the world as the primordials finished their creation. Upon completion, the Primordials put in place 5 artefacts that held the firmament of the world, the foundation that kept the plane aloft in the astral sea. Immediately the gods set to claiming their lands and placing their followers carefully, awakening these seeds as the denizens of the world. The first to erupt were the Elves, the Almerithian Elves laid down by Corellon Larethian and Sehanine Moonbow lasting several centuries alone on this wide world. The next were the Dwarves, forged into the stone of the mountains by Moradin, the first Dwarves shining with their forgefire hearts. The next beings to come were the Dragons, Giants, Orcs, Dragonborn, Tabaxi, Aarakocra, Genasi, Goblins, Tritons, and the Yuan-ti. But this brought the ire of the dark gods, being left out of the project altogether, they nimbly placed their seeds unbeknownst to the rest of their fellows. These seeds became the monstrosities, aberrations, and nightmares of the world, filling the night with dangers and killer thoughts. Then came the seeds of Mystara, the seeds of magic did not sprout anything resembling life, but instead gave way as conduits to Mystara's power directly, these became the Fonts of Magic, allowing all creatures a semblance of understanding of magic. This was the foundation for all life on Pranderion, the gods and primordials working together in harmony on this project for the first time in history.
"Recent" History...(can't put in full history as most of my players are on this website)
Over the last three thousand years, there have been several instances of war, nations falling and rising, and entire religions bearing new gods into the fold of Divinity. One of which was a human named Oris Stormcaller, a Demonologist that gained a following after redeeming his mind after being forced to kill his brother Kareth by the Lord of the Nine Hells. Oris then worked to save his soul by working with Oghma to gather dangerous artefacts from around the world created by the civilizations of the past. After his divinity was set in stone, a cleric of Oris brought in one artefact back to the city known as, The Capitol, located in the empire of Danithys. The arefact burst in the custody of the priests of Oghma, causing a slow moving bubble of power to erupt throughout the city causing those with strong magical connections to erupt and warp into beings that attacked everything that moved, but were restricted to the darkness of night. During this time, the King and several of his court wizards erected a giant Wall of Force, keeping what would be known later as the Spellplague quarantined within this city. The Capitol also invented a substance that created an everburning light of the sun named Sunrods. These sunrods became the key to survival and eventually replaced the currency of the city. Several years after the Spellplague happened, the citizens and government banned the use of magic, in favour of technology creating a technological wonder city. Out of this city came the Warforged, and several advancements including trains and large vehicles powered also by sunrods. The world turned on its head when the city became cut off from the outside. The Primordial City, named for the gates to the elemental planes that sit in the center of the city, floats counter-clockwise around the Capitol observing the landscapes several miles above it. The Dragonborn and Primordial Genasi denizens of the city keep to themselves advancing magic past its limits, empowering most of its citizens with higher physical ability. (Dragonborn have tails/grow wings at level 15) This is of course only recent as there have been no reports of it happening previously. Over recent time, a Dragon has gained immense power and even turned to lichdom, but after five hundred years he cured himself, gaining knowledge of secrets that only Mystara knows. This dragon's name is Garthonix, the Umberscale. Garthonix has visited every civilization on Erathys, and taking knowledge and forms of every race he has encountered. In the year 1246 A.D. (After Danithys) Garthonix resurfaced in the Free City of Estivaal, destroying the town with a legion of hired mercenaries, an Orc warband, and several Gnoll Hunting Packs that have united under him as the Black Hand. A band of adventurers escaped the city with the Ruler of Estivaal, Magister Khalenn, and the captain of his city watch, Scythe Captain Alyssia Modrehn towards the Dwarven City of An'Karathe. After beating citywide tournament, taking a portal to the fields outside of An'Hundiin, and assisted with fighting off the Gnoll forces of the Black Hand as well as the Demon Legions of the Abyss that were summoned by Garthonix. They then traveled through the First Layer of Hell, Avernus to find an item to resurrect one of their friends. Afterwards they found an exit to the material plane near the Capitol. The story here is for another section, but they eventually make it to the Free City of Mordenvaal, and free it from the clutches of an Ancient Red Dragon that had gone mad with power. Afterwards, the party split, leaving two members to find a way to fight Garthonix.
