I'm trying to homebrew something where you can add cantrips you've learned in the past, similar to Magic Initiate but without the 1st level spell and without it counting against your spell count. I've tried addingh it straight to a homebrewed subclass as spells - which would get me the not counting against known or prepared spells - but I can't leave the option to choose a spell when I do it that way. I've also tried making it a feat and editing the Magic Initiate to fit, but there's no option to not count against spell slots. Is there a way to do this? What am I missing?
