When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your Reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield. This lasts until your next turn or until the target you are protecting moves away. If a creature attacking the target with disadvantage in this way scores a hit on one of the dice rolled but not the other, then that attack hits you instead of the target.
