I have a level 5 cleric joining the party - his Ranger recently met his end pushing a Dreagloth off a bridge into lava to give his party a fighting chance in their escape from a Dungeon. My question is as to whether a custom nature cleric background for the Forgotten Realms “Winged Queen” with these abilities, background, and spells is balanced. If not, what can I do to balance them? What needs tweaking and how would you do it? These were pitched by my friend and so for balancing and reasons of fairness I wanted the communities opinions.
Call of the Queen This is not a spell. It is a background feature for a custom background. The feature is inspired by the shelter of the faithful feature from the acolyte background. It functions as follows. You send a prayer to your Goddess, Yathaghera, The Winged Queen, asking for aid and guidance. This call for help is relayed through your deity to a nearby follower of hers from the Winged Order. The follower hears the call of their deity, the queen.Either you or the follower will be guided to each other to provide the aid. The extent of the aid Is up to Dungeon Master discretion. Some examples of aid could be some useful information about the city your in, ability to provide provisions, ability to help find or provide shelter, some healing for the party.. e.t.c Some rarer examples of aid may include some form of combat or military aid, location of somewhere important, or the location of a magic item, all to be determined by the dungeon master. If their are no followers of the order in a 5 mile radius, the call of the queen is sent to the closest follower, but they may be too far to get to you in time.
Wrath Of The Queen Book: Queens Power Level: 3 School: Evocation Time: Instantaneous Range: 60 ft Components: V,S,M (Sheild and Weapon of the queen) Duration: Concentration Classes: Cleric
You raise your weapon to the sky and imbue it with the wrath of your deity. The weapon is then thrown and launched straight at the enemy at high speed. The imbued power is a pool of 5d6 radiant damage, when you launch the attack decide how much of the 5d6 pool you want to imbue. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. Spell deals 1d8 weapon damage to the target and the every enemy in a ten foot radius from the target make a constitution saving throw. If successful they take half damage of the imbued radiant damage. If the original target himself makes a successful save the radiant shockwave doesn't release and the spell misses.
Yathaghera's Wisdom Book: Queens Power Level: 0 School: Enchantment Time: Instantaneous Range: 60 ft Components: V,S,M ( Sheild and Weapon of the queen) Duration: Instant Classes: Cleric You bang your weapon across your sheild activating the power inside and drawing your weapon back you call upon the wisdom of your deity. As the power flows through the weapon you aim it and release a bright radiant beam of light that shoots forth from your weapon to the target. The target must contend with the wisdom and will of the queen. The target makes a wisdom saving throw. If they succeed, the spell misses. On an unsuccessful save the spell does 1d4 radiant damage and the next attack made against the creature has advantage on the roll. If this spell is used at 5th level or higher you can choose to forgoe the radiant damage and instead impose disadvantage on the creature or have them subtract the damage rolled from their next roll instead. If you choose this you must tell the dm in advance of your intent. This spells damage increases at 5th level (2d4), 11th level (3d4) and 17th level (4d4)
any help at all would be greatly appreciated to help my player/friend get a nature cleric that feels akin to what he is looking for.
Thank you everyone!
