Hi, I'm working on a character that is a hybrid of a pleistocene coyote and euchambersia(thought to be a very early venomous protomammal). As well as some type of reptile possibly?
He is part of an entire species that follows Xolotl as a deity as they believe Xolotl(Nahuatl) gave them the "gift" after seeing the plight of both species (in that area) he is what made them hybrids and gave them higher intelligence.
(I was hoping for the venom to cause hallucinations instead of physical damage), I was thinking maybe it could affect the senses sight, hearing, and maybe even sound so prey could be taken down silently
The venom isn't really used as a kill weapon but as an accentuating, possibly bonus action, for successful attacks and evasions
I'm thinking reskinning the winterwolf replacing snow camouflage with forest camouflage and icebreath with it's poison and dropping from large to medium in size. Then basically making it an Eldritch Knight or Battlemaster?
I'm more than open to any suggestions on all of it.
I want to make sure it's armor rating won't get it killed immediately, open to any ideas, maybe armor like off of golden compass.
He values his freedom above all things, and likes shiny objects, but has no concept of money.
I'm going for three methods of delivery for his venom(suggestions are more than welcome). Biting being number 1 then 2 being likes a spitting cobra would and finally a miasma that he would exhale. (I understand there would be limits and cool down periods) the different forms of delivery would allow for range as well as close quarters and pack hunting.
(A reptilian tail to use as a weapon possibly?), as a natural predator it's venom is heavily relied upon to take down it's prey.
So the backstory is that a half-elf warlock (race not set in stone) witnesses Eucyon from afar use a miasma to escape an owl-bear attack, the warlock then communicates telepathically convincing Eucyon to help him(they both have every intention of betraying the other).
Together they trick different creatures like a feather from a specific bird or a claw from a cheetah as examples. Taking these things he turns them into talismans that grants one ability from them so the bird loses it's flight but the wearer of the talisman gains it.
Once the totems are finished the warlock outsmarts Eucyon taking the talismans and escaping, but minus a finger, (and an injured Eucyon who by now knows and speaks common due to the bargain struck between the two), finds someone to make the finger into a talisman of faces.
Giving him the ability to look like the warlock. Searching for said warlock to get the necklace of talismans back, all the while not realizing that the warlock no longer has his skin because Eucyon has it thru the totem.
(Eucyon actually doesn't care either way if the warlock lives or not he just wants the necklace)
The kinks are far from worked out, but any suggestions or corrections to my thought line would be deeply appreciated, I'm not in a campaign at the moment I'm just really enjoying trying to make this character.
Oh and as a side note he his prejudice against humanoids calling them two legs, he thinks slightly better of tieflings, genasi and the like but only slightly and is overly confident and arrogant. He carries a portrait of the half-elf telling people he's trying to find his twin brother that he is two minutes older than.
