So I'm just now gearing up for my first campaign.. and with some help from friends I've mad what started as a simple orc-elf, put stats together, got her made, we good.
But I can't just go with base layers for anyone I need to spend time actually building and portraying, so I went into backstory, family tree, subraces, etc. And my DM has shown an eager interest in this mutt, so it's all approved, but being a writer for so long tells me this poor thing feels so OP'd and overdone... people who have played before, I need your expertise, does she sound like she'd be annoying to play with? Or genuinely fun? What are your takes on fully written out backgrounds?
Her mom was a neglectful, mildly abusive sun elf (distant fey-ri ancestry) who basically forced her to be overly religious and repent for being a 'curse' to the bloodline, kept her from any studies, and only taught her Common to ostracise her; all because her mom tried to defect and loved an orc, but as soon as it hindered her respect with the other elves she claimed he attacked her and showed disdain for the baby. Her father was an orc/Genasi hybrid who had been similarly left behind as he would weaken the army, but his mother had overheard a Fey prayer in a raid and she said it over him in hopes that he'd be blessed and protected. He grew up with a Fey companion, living among the wilderness much like his Genasi father, and at Vyx'hava's adulthood the Fey sought her out and lured her into the woods in the form of a giant hyena that has since become her companion and mount after teaching her survival skills.
Also, she wants to be a bard and freely express herself the way she was never allowed, to spite the sun elves, but she's really bad with vocalizing and verbal magic after speaking so rarely with others, and she finds out the first time she has to protect someone she cares about from a threat that she's actually very definitely a barbarian and will go into a FULL rage- and that, plus the hyena fey, plus her fey-ri blood, gives her a tendency to basically go full feral and act very much like a hyena while raging, as well as gaining bite power.
I may give her a sort of panic response where she can use fire hands that she struggles a LOT to control/do on command, but I'm unsure.
Your stats look bonkers for a level one. I'm also unsure of her class. She's a barbarian that gets a bite attack and scorching hands? Story aside, you need to be part of a group too. If you're too much stronger than the others, you may see have players feeling left out. Her charisma is super high for someone who can't vocalize themselves clearly.
She seems too strong simply as a level one. You need to leave room for her to grow, in stats and story.
