I'm new to the forums here, and frankly new to D&D as a whole in the grand scheme of things. I've been DMing for a couple of years at this point, and I'm reaching the point where I'm confident enough with my skills to dip my toes into homebrew. I've seen plenty of pearl-clutching online by folks with horror stories of balance-upending homebrew monstrosities, so believe me when I say I'm taking this with a fair amount of caution. Mostly I've been doing benign modifications of existing spells and magic items, swapping damage types for others of similar utility, or allowing players to research upgrades to their spells with interesting, mostly flavorsome effects. But my current campaign is starting to veer into the higher tiers of play with no indication of stopping, so today I decided to try my hand at a slightly more complex feat: adapting a spell from an earlier edition of D&D to 5e.
The spell I chose is "dismind", which I found in the AD&D book Wizards Spell Compendium, Volume I. I don't know if providing the text of the original spell verbatim is permitted here or not, so I won't do so for now; instead I invite the community to look it over my adaptation, linked below, and tell me what you think of it. I'm specifically hoping for feedback about the technical wording of the spell, the need for clarification, or any loopholes you can think of to its intended effects.
Hello there, lovelies!
