This spell manipulates the link between mind and body. It can be cast in one of two ways, detailed below.
Release Mind. You willingly unleash your mind, allowing it to wander freely and aimlessly while your body becomes encased in an impenetrable barrier. When this spell is cast, you fall prone and become incapacitated as your mind is detached from your body. An invisible, hemispherical barrier of force hedges out any other creatures to a radius equal to your height, covering your body completely and rendering it immune to all damage and conditions. Your body does not age while protected in this way, does not require food, water or other sustenance, and cannot be moved outside of the barrier. If the physical area around the barrier is moved (such as by the move earth spell or mundane relocation of the surface it rests on) the barrier moves along with it.
Your mind becomes disembodied, taking the form of an invisible, spectral ball of thought energy which aimlessly wanders the material plane, hovering at a speed of 10 feet. Any effect which allows one to see invisible creatures, such as the see invisibility spell and truesight, reveals a disembodied mind as a spherical wisp of smoke or a mote of pale light. A disembodied mind is incapable of communicating, and while it is capable of perceiving the world, it cannot retain what it experiences - though it might linger around loved ones or in locations of personal significance to its originator. A creature with telepathy or under the effects of the detect thoughts spell can probe a disembodied mind for simple facts about its originator, such as their name, their age, and the location of their body, which are communicated in ghostly whispers or foggy visions. The disembodied mind can resist divulging this information by succeeding on a Wisdom (Deception) check or a relevant saving throw (a Wisdom saving throw for detect thoughts, for example).
A mind freed by this spell can be attacked by creatures capable of sensing it. A disembodied mind has an AC of 12, half as many HP as its original body, and is immune to all conditions and all damage except psychic damage. If a disembodied mind is destroyed, its original body immediately dies and the barrier surrounding it dissipates.
A disembodied mind cannot return to its original body until another creature causes it to return by way of the restore mind spell. Even a wish spell cannot restore a disembodied mind.
Restore Mind. You reach out and touch the barrier surrounding a body affected by the release mind spell, bidding it to return. An unwilling mind must make a Charisma saving throw. On a success, the mind resists and remains disembodied; it then becomes immune to any further attempts at unwilling subjection to this spell for 30 days (by any source). Otherwise, the mind re-enters its body and the barrier surrounding it disperses. The restored creature ceases to be incapacitated, begins to age again as normal, is no longer immune to damage or conditions, and is unable to cast the release mind spell for 30 days.
