Hi, I'm making a homebrew item similar to an Instrument of the Bards, but there doesn't seem to be a way to limit each spell to a single charge per day. I added a min/max of 1 charge for each spell. If I don't specify a number of charges for the item as a whole, then clicking "Cast" next to one of the spells disables the rest of the spells (as if the item only had one charge total). If I specify a number of charges equal to the number of spells, then I can click "Cast" next to any one of the spells multiple times. The item description shows that each spell only has one charge, but it doesn't seem to be enforced. (I tried this with an official non-homebrew Instrument of the Bard, and it also did not enforce the single charge per spell.)
Is there something I'm missing? Could the per-spell charges be enforced? Since the charges reset at dawn and a single "day" could take multiple sessions, it gets pretty tough to keep track of which spells have already been used.
Thank you!
Edit: I realized that the min/max charges you specify with the spell are actually how many charges it takes to cast that spell, not the number of charges allowed for that spell. So I guess this is actually a feature request to add per-spell limits for magic items with charges. Thanks!
I think you probably can't do exactly what you want as a feature of D&D Beyond; you could maybe fudge it by using a modifier to add a custom feat which has actions for what you want, but that gets complicated and messy and really I don't think it's worth it.
If I were you I'd just go with a number of charges equal to the number of spells you can cast, then set each spell to one charge, and make absolutely clear in the description that each spell can only be cast once per day. You can also put "Once per day" in the details section of each spell for good measure.
But yeah, I think it needs to be enforced by the player and/or DM; a lot of stuff does anyway so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
