I know I'm jumping the gun on this, but just curious what you guys think about some these. I chose to leave the subclass based additional spell lists off for now, since I'm still working on some and thought that'd be a bit much to show at one time.
Ranger's Mark
2nd-level ranger feature
You focus your senses onto a specific creature, you learn the Hunter's Mark spell. It doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know. You can use it twice without expending a spell slot, and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Whenever you start casting the spell, you can modify it so that it doesn’t require concentration. If you do so, the spell’s duration becomes 1 minute for that casting.
When you reach higher levels in this class, when you use this feature to cast Hunter's Mark the damage die increases; at 7th level (1d8) and at 15th level (1d10).
After reading the Favored Foe feature in Tasha's, I was pulled towards the part of the community who thinks that Favored Foe is a trash feature. Now I'm not going to go on a tangent on why I dislike the feature, but I definitely thought that this was a missed opportunity to give ranger's their "divine smite" feature. After reading the wording the from the UA and from the 11th level feature from fey wanderer, I though that I could salvage something Which this version is definitely a first draft and likely needs to have the bonus damage tuned down and possibly even reduce the number of free uses to once per long rest, but thought it's a good starting point.
Expertise
3rd-level ranger feature, which replaces the Primeval Awareness feature
When you reach 3rd level and again at 10th level, choose two of your skill proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.
Always liked the idea of ranger's being the "skilled martial class," so thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to include this as an option. It'd allow the ranger to have access to expertise without it being tied to their favored terrain (which I'd prefer they would done the "if you roll lower than 8 or lower on the d20 roll, it counts as a 9" instead, but it is what it is).
Natural Explorer Options
1st-level ranger feature
When you choose a favored terrain, the following environments are added to your list of options; Desert, Far Realm, Feywild, Ocean, Shadowfell, Urban, Volcanic.
I'm honestly flabbergasted that WotC didn't take this opportunity to give rangers additional favored terrains, or at least just add urban as an errata. So decided to make a small list of terrains that I thought would make sense. Now I didn't choose to put in every plane since I thought that'd be a little redundant since there would be some overlap, like the plane of earth with mountains (and I'd personally underdark too depending on the location).
Fighting Style Options
(Varies)
When you choose a fighting style, the following style is added to your list of options.
Sleight of Hand. (Fighter/Ranger) You ignore to loading property on weapons that you are proficient with. In addition, you can draw or stow a weapon that you are proficient with that has the light property as a bonus action.
This was a fighting style I originally made for my College of Marksmanship bards (with updates of course), and thought it'd be an interesting fighting style. Even if it could be considered redundant because of the crossbow expert and gunner feats, it'd a way to not have to worry about reloading without requiring a player to pick up a feat. So not sure if I should also add a bonus to hit or damage for this one or not at the moment, but definitely still liked the idea of this fighting style.
