So I'm running a Christmas-themed one-shot for my friends. The premise is that the players are sneaking into Santa's Workshop so they can kill Santa, put on his coat, and become the new Santa. I'd like to sprinkle in some Christmas-themed magic items for them to find. It's a one-shot so I'm trying to avoid anything too complicated, but I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas for Christmas-themed magic items or some idea for how to reflavor existing magic items to be Christmas-y. Here's a few I've already come up with...
For Reflavoring, I've introduced Gingerbread Cookies that function as Potions of Healing, a Self-Heating Cocoa that functions as Alchemist Fire, and Krampus's Bundle of Birch Sticks, which functions as a +2 whip.
As for original magic items I've come up with, here are a couple that are intended to be poorly designed toys:
Hugging Santa Doll – A Santa figurine that automatically extends its hugging arms, latching onto any surface or creature hit by the doll. The faulty wiring inside causes it to warm up for 6 seconds, at which point it explodes, dealing 8d8 Fire Damage in a 10x10 circle centered on the doll, and dealing double damage to objects and constructs. Any character proficient in martial weaponry can throw the figurine as a ranged weapon (20ft/40ft) with proficiency.
Rocket Skates - Skates that can be worn as an Action, then activated as a Bonus Action. While activated, the wearer gains the benefits of the Haste spell, and must maintain concentration on the spell. When concentration is lost or the duration has passed, rather than losing one turn instead the skates explode, dealing 3d6 Fire damage to the wearer and any other creature within 5 feet. If the wearer attempts to remove the skates before the duration completes, they must spend an action to remove them, and succeed on a DC12 Sleight of Hand check or else they trigger the explosion. The skates still explode at the end of the Duration or if thrown.
And one pretty basic but important item:
Santa's List - Legendary Artifact. Can be used to cast Scrying or Locate Creature without requiring a spell slot or components.
