This campaign has a steampunk heavy theme to it and allows for player freedom to do as they wish. Want to take over the world and implement your own government than go ahead that road though may be long and rough and may end with a number of backstabbing's. Other players can look to better the world reform it so that when the scourge is ended the world will return into a more peaceful era. It's all dependent on your actions.
With that out of the way This campaign is about floating cities, creating your own, building a kingdom, and braving the world to bring back home to add to your wealth and power. players will have to navigate and plan out their movements or suffer consequences. If your a player that is more focused on combat and dislikes note taking this campaign is probably not for you.
Requirements
1. This is a campaign that uses both video and voice so when you are accepted we will do a camera test to make sure there is no problems.
2. D&DBeyond character sheets only not only is this for easier locating and monitor loot for me but a second reason i will go into later =3
3. Come to the campaign with a positive and friendly aura while this campaign about survival it shouldn't be competitive. While its not wrong to min max try to to at least challenge yourself with character or abilities/skills that your not used to. This campaign is challenging as it makes you think about your next move and that all powerful paladin you built up to be the impenetrable god probably wont help.
Required Books
While not exactly required these books will help you all in the long run in this campaign if you don't already have them don't worry just ask me and ill share them via google drive and we will be all set. As for source books i allow all books except for Unearthed Arcana because that book is all kinds of weird.
Strongholds and followers (This book will help you understand what building your castle will give you and the forces you can command )
Izzys Airships a la carte (This book will give you info on how to buy/build your own airship to travel the world )
I have worked on this campaign idea for months and my brain was friend a number of times because of it but i believe that this campaign will be my best one yet. Now if you are worried about scheduling do not worry this campaign wont be the next week kind of deal this campaign will probably happen Password: Name a random household item after the 1st of June. This will give those who have been accepted a large timeframe to plan out your schedule going forward and will allow for backstory building when given the worlds lore.
With that out of the way we will move onto the application but before we do there is one thing i would like to address. As a DM I don't like banning certain thing because it feels like I'm restricting you all but there is one thing i am not allowing and that is one spell: Tasha's Mind Whip This spell is the bane of my existence as a DM but other than that you all are free to pick any spell now onto the next part.
Application
Name/preferred name: (This is pretty self explanatory)
Age: (The campaign will contain very dark aspects and probably aren't suited for certain ages.)
Discord: (You dont have to post it here you could always message me directly if you don't want it out there.)
Roleplaying exp: (How long have you played D&D, what do you consider yourself, have you ever Dmed a campaign?)
Roleplaying strengths: (Do you consider yourself proficient in the art of being your character, Are you the one who tends to act as the voice of reason when it comes to another party members actions that might lead to a civilians death. These are just examples please fill out what you believe would best describe you.
Roleplaying Weaknesses: (I am not using this question to target people and you are free to leave this blank if you aren't comfortable. This question is more for me as DM to adjust the way the story goes to better accommodate you and not throw you into situations that you feel you don't know what to do or want to do.)
Taboos: (These are things you don't wish to see in the campaign as this is a very dark campaign there will be things like slave, gore, and other stuff of course i wish to know what you generally feel uncomfortable with so I avoid it.
Password: (Its in the post you just got to look =3)
Roleplaying strengths: I love lore and getting immerded in the history of places like in WoW or Dragon Age
Roleplaying Weaknesses: Not a lot of experience in ttrpg, had an issue with meta gaming during my first few games that I’ve been working on so it should affect me here.
Taboos: prefer not to be actively torturing npcs (gta v left me kind of weirded out), detailed sexual violence is a non starter, and gold encumbrance
Roleplaying exp: Player for about 20 sessions, DM for over 40 sessions in three different groups, the current group is around 20 sessions in. I'm also a gm on a dnd play by post server with over 100 active members.
Roleplaying strengths: I'm someone who prefers to play my character, including trying to be true to the stats. I also really enjoy any opportunity to challenge my experiences in our world so I'm always happy to be put in an uncomfortable situation. I believe that alignment is based on the actions of your character in the past and should just be a tool of how you have acted, not the box you are stuck in for all scenarios. I also enjoy a tough challenge, don't want to know what anyone's hp is, the bloodied mark is good enough for me. Meta gaming is a quick way to frustrate me, I even believe that once initiative is rolled, you are out of time for planning.
Roleplaying Weaknesses: I feel like my biggest weakness in general for dnd is remembering to take notes in the moment. I've been better about it, but it's a huge focus for me now. I tend to forget smaller things if I don't write them down.
Taboos: I have no situation that I don't wish to see. The world is a bad place and bad things happen.
Roleplay experience: I've been a Play and DM for a total of about 6 years now across several systems so In all honesty I get some rules mixed between systems
Strength and weakness: You know personally this is a wierd question as I've never thought about it. I'm just a role player never thought about it as having a strength particularly in any area. This being said the same is true for a weakness. If I'm being honest I may just be very much just decent. I dont know if that's bragging or selling myself short????
Taboos: I spent way to long trying to figure out if there was anything to put here so yeah nah nothing
Password: so it's kinda funny passwords I did read through the rules but you can just read the password on other peoples post to get the idea. I know its supposed to be a household item just thought I'd make the observation also why specifically mind whip very interesting....... oh also a household item is a broom.
i have roleplayed a lot and mainly without knowinly i may add Chaotic evil while swiyching from friendly when needed and to murder mode when ok to do so. only really played dnd once before so my rp experince isnt exactly from DnD and i wanted to give it another go thus avoiding being bored. and no never been a DM and do not have the proer experince in DnD to do so.
i guess her steangths would be all formed around the two tiny children she has to take care of and id say her biggest weakness is also her desire to protect them nomatter what it takes as she has been stealing to provide for the two girls. another weakness which she has never told anyone is that she has been through many worlds and lost loved ones far to many times thus causing the imballence causing her to switch from her choatic and evil side to a sort of mother figure for these two younger girls despite only being a teen herself.
As far as taboos id think her only taboo is dont snoop through her things or target the kids ahes with. otherwise its fair game
Roleplaying exp: I've played for about 5 years now, mostly 5e and pathfinder but a little fate and other systems as well. I have DM'ed a few oneshots but nothing longstanding.
Roleplaying strengths: I have a tendency to play problem solver/voice of reason characters and I find it much more fun to play to the character/backstory as much as possible than to just do what is most advantageous in the moment.
Roleplaying Weaknesses: I'm not super comfortable playing characters on the evil side of things (don't mind playing alongside them at all) and I absolutely can't do accents if character voices are a thing that the group would be doing.
Taboos: the only thing I would imagine being an issue off the top of my head would be sexual violence, and I would prefer to play with a group that is respectful if a person says that they are uncomfortable with something that has come up.
Roleplaying exp: So I have played in two campaigns that one for a couple months, fell apart due to scheduling, the second was nearly a year, fell apart naturally. Overall, I have been aware of and playing 5e for about 2 years. I consider myself well versed in game mechanics but still rather rough around the edges with roleplay. I am currently starting my 2nd campaign as a DM as a practice/dry run but yeah I have before unsuccesfully.
Roleplaying strengths: I would say my strengths are in the intelligent characters I really enjoy the strategy that can go into the game and love building pragmatic calculating characters who try to play to their strengths or use their enemies weaknesses against them. I think with characters like this I RP at my best. I tend to put my two sense in but go with the flow of the party I think and will let everyone know what I think or my character thinks. I also have most game mechanics basically memorized so that kinda helps too.
Roleplaying Weaknesses: Genrally, I am a very weak person when it comes to diplomatic situations I can't plan out in advance and engage in like a debate, I usually end up thinking my character has more reputation and notoriety and so try to through that around. I try to work on this and still am I don't do things like that out of character so I don't fully know why I struggle so hard with charisma based things like that in game but it is what it is. I can still manage through but think of a raging drunk barbarian trying to haggle down a greedy merchant whose a penny pincher. I am the barbarian.
Taboos: I can deal with everything, however I will draw a line at in depth discussion and detail about sexual abuse gonna nope out if a circumstance like that comes up. I can tolerate a solid implication where it seems like its leading to that but then cuts to black next scene we all know that something happened not exactly what though but it is clearly implied
Roleplaying exp: I have been playing DND 5e for two years. I've sent most of that time as a player and I have been a DM in one short campaign and in a few one-shots. I consider myself to be a heavy roleplayer: I really do love combat but the best moments I've had are the banters I have with my fellow players and having them handle my character's BS. I don't like playing evil characters and I lean towards characters that have a strong moral compass but a flawed personality.
Roleplaying strengths: In every session, I always focus on the relationships my PC has with the entire party. As a person who tends to play utility classes like a cleric or wizard, I have a knack for building out plans and strategies to conquer any situations. However, I do love it creating banter with my party and encouraging others to roleplay. Also, I am the type of player who believes that DND is a cooperative storytelling experience. If I need to shut up and let another player take the spotlight, I will happily do so and if they need me to support them in some way, I'll probably fail at it but I'll definitely try for them.
Roleplaying weaknesses: While I love getting into character and exploring my character's personality and quirks, I really suck at accents and voices. I also don't do well with goals and linear storylines; I like an open-world setting where I can talk to the blacksmith and find the right weapon for me or a quest where we don't have to hack and slash our way to our objective but use another method like stealth or diplomacy to achieve the same goal.
Taboos: I love the dark fantasy setting but sexual violence and abuse is a no go for me.
