EDIT - I AM NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT APPLIED!
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: Veteran Location/Timezone: Pacific Daylight Timezone Schedule: Saturday. Starting time 4pm – 6pm, 3 – 4 hour sessions, Starting June 5. Roles sought: 2-3 Players Game style: Casual
OK people, here we go! I am a long time DM (25+ years) looking for some players to torment, I mean to enjoy a new campaign. I currently have 3 players and am looking for 2 or 3 more. This will be my online trial by fire as I have not really DMed online before. This is a homebrew world of my creation but uses the actual rules for D&D 5e. Sourcebooks allowed are Players Guide, Sword Coast, Xanthar’s, Eberron, and Wildemount. I am an old school DM that started playing in the 90’s and cut my teeth on all the old modules. I have played basic (red box) D&D, AD&D, 3e, 3.5e and 5e (If you noticed I missed 4e that is wrong, no one misses 4e). I have also played Shadowrun, Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Pathfinder, Star Wars and Alternity (bonus points if you know that one).
This is not Critical Role. This is not a heavy RP game. Do not expect to play 3 sessions doing nothing but RPing a date. What this means is that this is going to be a casual group that is far more story based than character based. That said, I welcome backstories to characters. This allows me the potential to put additional content into the game. However do not create a backstory and expect a long story arc involving your characters history. This is not a video game sandbox where you can go and do whatever you want. This is not saying that the players themselves don’t have choices during the campaign, they have all the choices, but it does mean that you can’t go visit a city on the other side of the world that has nothing to do with the current storyline.
There will be no interparty fighting. If you think it is fun to antagonize the other players, move on. If you think it is fun to do be the lone wolf and go in the opposite way after the party comes to a consensus, this is not for you. If there is an issue, come to me. There will not be any evil characters. While the story isn’t necessarily heroic, there are bad guys out there and the PC’s are not one of them. While this will be a mature group with cursing, bad jokes and some mature themes, there will not be any sexual assault played out in any way. You will be kicked out immediately. Any romance the players want to try will be a “fade to black” setting. It is not THAT kind of role playing.
If after all of that you are still interested in playing my campaign, Welcome! I would like all experience levels to apply from newbie to veteran and it matters not your sex, orientation, race or ability. We all want to have fun and have a cooperative gaming experience. Please answer the questions below and PM me with the answers. If you don’t PM me I probably won’t get back to you. I will accept applications for 3 days from this posting and I am sure it will take me some time to go through the responses. Please be patient and I will contact EVERYONE to let them know their status. Once I have my players I will be sending out the campaign setting and we will get started with a session zero to create characters and go from there. We will be using discord for video/audio, D&D Beyond for character creation and dice rolling, and Roll20 for battle maps.
Edit: I forgot to mention that there are already three players and these last 2 to 3 will round out the party to 5 or 6 total players.
Game on!

How much experience do you have with D&D in any form (if you have never played, tell me why you want to play)? basic, ad&d, Dragonlance, now playing 5e
What is your style of playing (Heavy RP, casual, good mix, etc.)? casual
What would you like to get out of this game? I miss having a weekly or biweekly game
What don’t you want out of this game? nothing
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? overbearing players wanting to be the center of everything
Tell me a favorite time gaming story, either in the actual game or at the table, that you still tell to other people? playing out of the abyss with my wife and we both die fighting in the never light grove.
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? Just with the whole covid thing miss interacting with people and having fun.
How much experience do you have with D&D in any form (if you have never played, tell me why you want to play)? Mostly 3.5 but some pathfinder and just finished running a 5e game.
What is your style of playing (Heavy RP, casual, good mix, etc.)? Casual but I feed of the group energy.
What would you like to get out of this game? A chance to actually play, I always end up running the game and don't get to play any of the characters I'd like to.
What don’t you want out of this game? Unnecessary drama or conflict with another player.
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? Rule lawyers and excessive metagaming.
Tell me a favorite time gaming story, either in the actual game or at the table, that you still tell to other people? The time we fought an army with just two PCs, my rogue had a ring the allowed him 15ft teleportation and the ranger had a quiver of fireball arrows. I teleported into the center of the attackers and started swinging while the ranger hit all around me with the arrows. I kept making my saves with evasion, as the area around me cleared I'd teleport farther in and strike again, only to have more arrows go off. It made my rogue look like a real badass.
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? I have a lot of knowledge but also forget a lot of little things so I constantly flip through my books to verify I'm doing something right. I would really like to play a fighter/rogue combo but I am open to other options. I usually lean towards arcane casters but wouldn't mind playing a cleric.
Thank you for all that applied. This post will remain open and active through out today before it will be closed and I will be vetting all applications next week.
How much experience do you have with D&D in any form (if you have never played, tell me why you want to play)? Some, campaign fizzled out after 4 sessions
What is your style of playing (Heavy RP, casual, good mix, etc.)? Good mix
What would you like to get out of this game? Looking to get deep into a campaign
What don’t you want out of this game? A short 4-6 session that fizzles out
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? Anti LGBTQ+, racist or sexist
Tell me a favorite time gaming story, either in the actual game or at the table, that you still tell to other people? I rolled 3 nat 20s in a row when fishing and creating a stew for my party
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? I'm still new to Dnd so I might take longer to figure out how rolls and actions work as well as being shy at the start of a campaign
I've never played D&D, but have always been interested in it, probably since I was about 13 and got into fantasy books. I have been going through a book series (Book 37 comes out in a few months, WOOHOO!!) and would like to delve into the scene a bit more.
I would probably be a bit more of a casual player, but could toss in some lore-friendly quips or characteristics.
I'd like to learn about the game, see if its something I could really get into, and have some fun with people when you can't hang out WITH people.
A heavily story laden campaign that would really bog down game play.
I wouldn't really tolerate someone making everything about them (in or outside the game).
That time I never played and wanted to play was the best haha!
Time wise, I'm flexible player on the weekend. But I work a rotating schedule at my job, so I do 2 weeks morning and then 2 weeks afternoons, so half the time, Sundays can't run past 9 PDT and half the time Fridays I dont get home until 1 AM PDT (Saturday, technically). Any other time on the weekend, I could work a schedule.
First off, to the OP, love your description of your game. Your crack about roleplaying 3 sessions for date had me laughing as I could not agree more. I enjoy D&D, the fact that it is a role-playing game but sometimes RPing minutiae for extended periods of time can really bog down a game. I like to think of RPing as seasoning, but playing the game, advancing the ball and using abilities in combat or puzzle situations is the main course for me. I would never grief or step on anyone's toes for RPing, but I do like game that at least attempts to make an effort to keep the pace moving forward.
If you still have room I would love to be considered.
What is name? Patrick B.

How much experience do you have with D&D in any form (if you have never played, tell me why you want to play)? Been playing since 3rd grade, back to 1e. Have played all the editions since as well as some other RPGs like Champions. But mostly D&D. There was a brief foray into Pathfinder, but I don't speak of those days much :)
What is your style of playing (Heavy RP, casual, good mix, etc.)? Light RP, pretty casual. Enjoy combat and tactical puzzles where the group gets to work together to solve issues, exploration and using clues to advance a good story.
What would you like to get out of this game? Although I've played for over 3 decades (sheesh I feel old) I've never been able to play in a campaign that takes a group of players from low levels to high levels (15+). Would really enjoy being able to grow a character, or work with the same group at least, into higher levels of play and more epic storylines. Not a dealbreaker if folks prefer lower level play but it would be nice.
What don’t you want out of this game? I don't want to role-play hitting on barmaids, I can do that in real life if I want to. I like these games to help get away from the day to day grind a bit so I prefer more actual Dungeons and Dragons in my game than soap opera drama.
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? Antagonistic players who deliberately cause drama and suck the fun out of a session while insisting they are "roleplaying". Edgelords who insist on murder/slashing any NPC who doesn't behave the way they want are KOS IMHO, happy to collect any bounties on their heads.
Tell me a favorite time gaming story, either in the actual game or at the table, that you still tell to other people? The group I usually play with is the same group I started playing D&D with since 3rd grade. Great group of pals and we have stayed in touch all these years in no small part to our connection to RPGs, mostly D&D. One of the guys in my group, who is one of the nicest human beings I've ever met, played a paladin. He played a very simple and direct role-play style, keeping it simple. His catchphrase was "Don't steal, it's bad!". Sounds kind of cheesy and you'd think it would get old. But to this day we still say that phrase when someone is misbehaving and have a smile over it. I'm smiley right now just typing it haha :)
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? I feel I could go on, but I'll just let this stand as-is for now and let you ask me any questions you might need. I'm PST time zone, but can be really flexible on weekends.
How much experience do you have with D&D in any form (if you have never played, tell me why you want to play)? about two or three years but haven't played much
What is your style of playing (Heavy RP, casual, good mix, etc.)? good mix
What would you like to get out of this game? friends and people to play dnd with
What don’t you want out of this game? nothing
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? nothing, im a pretty non offended guy
Tell me a favorite time gaming story, either in the actual game or at the table, that you still tell to other people? dont really have one
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? im just looking for friends and a good time
