Game: D&D 5e, Starting Up Dragon Heist with the intention of following it with Mad Mage immeidately after. Group type: Online via Zoom and Roll20 in game, Discord for organizing outside of the session. Experience: I've DM'd for a year and a half. Location/Timezone: EDT Schedule: Weekly on Saturday nights from 6pm-10pm with a short break around the halfway point. Roles sought: 3 reliable and experienced players who are in it for the long haul, preferable 18+. We have one kid in our group but he's proven to be mature in a previous campaign, so if that's you, we can potentially make an exception. Game style: Semi-hardcore, a lot of combat but also a good amount of roleplaying and exploration.
One thing unique about my DM style is that I welcome "rule lawyers," so long as they keep it respectful, back it up with page number references to the sourcebooks, but also let me ultimately decide whether I want to follow that rule or not. Sometimes for the sake of the general flow of the game, I go with what feels right, as I think most would agree is ideal. By doing this I'm becoming better acquainted with the official rules while also refining my personal approach to DM'ing. For this reason, I would also prefer experienced players who have at least read the PHB (player's handbook) and have played for at least a few months.
As for creating characters, anything canon in Forgotten realms is permitted. I've been debating whether or not to ban Yuan-Ti as I've been told they're OP but I have yet to decide concretely either way. Feel free to roll persuasion to convince me otherwise xD
If you've read this far, thank you - I'd love to hear from you :) But before you reply, please take a moment to seriously ask yourself whether or not you'll be able to commit four hours a week every Saturday night for a campaign that could easily last 1-2 years. For those who aren't familiar, these specific published adventures are massive. They start at level 1 and go all the way to level 20, and it's all XP based, not milestones, so it's a serious grind. Obviously it would be ideal to find a group of 4 players who will be there from start to finish, but obviously we all have lives outside of dnd and it's entirely possible that scheduling conflicts or other commitments will pop up and we might lose folks along the way. For that reason, while I currently already have 4 players, I'm seeking 3 more to bring us to 7, that way if up to 3 people drop out or are absent for any given session, the show goes on. Only if 4 people drop out will we have to replace people, which I'm hoping won't happen anytime soon, otherwise I've clearly failed as a DM to maintain interest xD lol. Which reminds me of another thing I was going to mention.
One idea I've been entertaining is whether or not we should all play a short 2-3 hour one-shot I've written for level 3 characters. It's a short dungeon crawl, but I figured it would give us the chance to get to know each other as we play, and whether or not we like each others' playstyles and can see ourselves playing with each other for the massive length of time that dragon heist/mad mage requires. If people agree that this is a good idea, then we'll absolutely try that before we start, but if not, we'll skip right to session zero (hopefully this Saturday the 12th at 6pm EDT) and talk about what we want the campaign to be / party composition, meet each other, chill for a bit, then have our characters ready to play by Saturday the 19th, same time.
Sorry for the long post, but for such a long campaign, I figured it was a good idea to put as much thought into it as possible (I've been putting a lot of time into prep lately and hope it's worth it :) ) so again, if you read all that, big thank you - if you've thought it over and are definitely both interested and free to commit, please send me a private message telling me what my stance is on "rule lawyers," how long I estimated the campaign to take from start to finish, and what idea I suggested for a pre-session-zero. If I could get three people to do that for me, thereby proving to me that they read the whole post, then we're golden. :)
One last note - but this is kind of a given in any dnd game really, but the number one rule in all sessions is respect each other. Pretty simple. Any form of hatred, be it racism/sexism/homophobia/ableism/transphobia, etc, will not be tolerated. Also, no politics please. We're all just here to play dnd and have fun. :)
Hiya, newish/intermediate player here. Have played in 4 or 5 short term campaigns, even dm'd one or 2. Looking to join a new group. Weekend nights are perfect for me so I'm down for the time. Discord Pagandas#6865
Wow wee that was a lot to unpack but boy am I interested. Been looking for a long term campaign for months now and yet to find one so I would to to love to see what kind of game you run! Ive been playing for a little under 2 years now (mainly using milestone so would need a bit of help with explaining xp) and I have been both player and dm. Domino#9413 here is my discord if you would like the more personal info and such!
Player Experience: Experienced player Time zone: EST Availability: My Saturday nights are generally wide open Playstyle: I like a lot of combat and a lot of opportunity to RP but am super flexible. As long as everyone is on the same page, I'm good to go!
So I'm a little late to the party but I'd also like to express my interest.
Experience: Mostly just watching games (So I'd say i got a good grasp of the rules, but possibly unable to distinguish some homebrew used in those for official), and are in my first campaign on Saturday afternoons (local time) but those sessions are few and far between as half the group is quite busy. Timezone: JST (So basically these sessions are Sunday mornings for me when I'm always free, at least until next March when I might move back). age: 27 since last month. Discord: shade #3904

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies and interest :)
I'm afraid we've filled up for now but if we need more players down the road I'll definitely update this thread again. Thanks again :)
