I'm hoping for a casual group of players willing to help me learn to play the game. I don't want to be a DM yet, but I like the idea. I have a character made already, but am willing to make changes to it. I'll need to play online for now thanks to Covid-19, but I'd prefer playing face-to-face in the future. I'll be living in Ottawa, Ontario once work starts again. My timezone is Eastern Daylight Time. My internet sucks so I probably can't do video at all, but audio should be fine. Schedule's pretty open, I just have school and maybe some early farm work once the fields dry up enough.
Good evening I had someone that just drop out of my wildemount game we will be starting this Sunday 29th at 1230pm-430pm 1st lvl buy stats. You can contact me at Veldemer#1187 discord
@TheMagis @Zombie911911 Just wondering if the three of us who are new to this and want to learn might create our own party (with a couple other new players) and look for an experienced DM. It would be nice not to be the only inexperienced player, is all I'm thinking, and we could all learn together. Not sure if that'll work though. A lot of DMs seem to have their own parties already. Though, I mean, I could always try being DM.
Also, forgot to mention Sundays aren't great for me as long as I'm home with the fam. I can do evenings after 4 probably, but not usually earlier. I'd also have to use Discord on my phone since my laptop sucks and won't let Discord download.
I'd be down for something like that. It sounds like it is quite in line with the spirit of the game. Also, I am told you can use voice on discord through their web app. It may be easier on the ole laptop.
TBH, I don't actually know how the game runs through DndBeyond. If you've figured that part let me know!
I found this one too, i'm tring to get it currenty: Play-by-post.
Awesome! Not sure how it runs through here either. I know they don't have a virtual tabletop (VTT), but Roll20 has one for free and Fantasy Grounds has the best one currently, but it costs a bit (4 bucks monthly, or around 35 for a lifetime license or whatever. It might be in American, though. Not sure).
With Roll20 it has built-in virtual rolling and you can make dungeons and stuff on there. It seemed like a good option, and if you're okay with waiting a bit, I'm willing to take the time to learn it better than I already have. It also has built-in audio and video, though I've heard neither are great. We could use discord for that instead. Other than that, it has a chat option, where rolls are made and things can be described. You can upload character sheets in there too, and create monsters and items and stuff that can be drag-and-dropped onto the VTT. There's also the chat, which would work similarly to the play-by-post you're looking to join. Only with Roll20 you get the visuals as well, which is kind of nice, and makes it easier to keep track of stats and effects from spells.
I'm still looking into Fantasy Grounds too. I think with Roll20 you can import your D&D Beyond character sheets and possibly homebrew stuff into it. Seems like a good option.
The thing with Fantasy Grounds is it's more automated. I've heard it has more of a learning curve than Roll20 though. I'll check out some more videos and reviews.
I have a FG standard license already. It was only $10USD last weekend on Steam, normally $40, so i snagged it when i was looking into all this. It kind of seems like this site works mostly through Discord and the DnDBeyond purchasable content.
So I actually bought the physical Essentials Kit and that is how I found out about DnDBeyond. I have the rulebook that came with it and the adventure book Dragon of Icespire Peak. It came with a promo code to unlock similar items on here. I'm not sure what y'all have for physical/digital content, but there seems to be stuff on here for free-99 too.
That's great, actually. I just bought the physical Player's Handbook and might be getting some other stuff for my birthday in a week. Not sure. I have some apps for D&D as well that could come in handy.
I created a roll20 account, I also have Fantasy Grounds Classic Standard (no idea how to use it, lol), and Discord. Any idea how we should get this thing rolling?

Looking forward to meeting people on here!

I'm also a new player looking for a group to join if you guys want another player
@TheMagis Oooh, nice! Good job snagging that while it was on sale!
@Ram1989_2 Yeah, that'd be great! A typical campaign party is 5 people, and then a 6th member as the DM. Right now we have three, and you'd make four.

@Savrail I'm in. I have a pretty open schedule though evenings would likely work best.
@Ram1989_2 Perfect! Thanks for joining!

Saturdays are best for me.

Hey!! I’m totally new and really interested? Do you still have any spots available? :)
@LivelyLindsay Yes we do! That makes five of us altogether I believe. We just need a DM, possibly.
A question for everyone - do we want to look for an experienced DM, or do we want to find another newbie and have one of us as a DM?
