Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online / Face-to-face / either Experience: A few years, but way back in the 2nd edition days. No experience with 5th edition beyond reading the books. No experience with virtual tabletops, but I want to learn. Location/Timezone: US EST. Availability: Available weekdays after 7pm until about 11pm. Available Saturday from 8am until midnight+. Available most Sundays 8am until 11pm, but first Sunday of the month not until 2pm. Preferred role: Player. I would like to learn how to DM and think I'd probably be good at it, but I need to be a lot more comfortable after such a long break and learn VTTs first. Game style: Something regular, ideally weekly. I would like to experience some significant combat and maybe exploration using a VTT. But, of course, I do also like the roleplay elements and have time to develop my character and the collaborative story we're creating. I don't mind mature themes and tend to prefer more serious over silly, but I like a little humor too.
Other Info: Obviously having played 2nd edition, I'm a bit older. I don't mind playing with a younger player or maybe two, but I don't really want to be the only ancient one in a group. My times are a little flexible both ways, but if we're playing weeknights I do have to be well rested for the work I do. I also have a family and there will probably be times (not too often) that I cannot make a weekly campaign, but I am very good at keeping my commitments (in general) and I am good at communicating when I cannot. I'm open to playing just about any race/class, and I have more character ideas than I know what to do with. For now, I would strongly prefer to be playing in the Forgotten Realms setting, as the familiarity will aid me in reacclimating to the game.
Randomly I know one of the guys who works at Myrtle Beach Games and Comics and he says they have games evey night and that Wednesday is their big D&D night. I hope that helps in finding a game locally.

Thanks! I'll definitely check them out. I've been there before, but not specifically for D&D.
I intend to start a weekly online 5th ed campaign in the next month or so, although it is a homebrew setting that has some Forgotten Realms elements. My campaigns have a little of everything--RP, combat, exploration, puzzles, riddles, etc. I especially like to world build and create story-driven campaigns where the characters' backstories are integrated into the narrative. I would describe my campaigns as high fantasy, somewhat dark. I play fast and loose with the rules, the story is always more important to me. I also started playing during 2nd ed and prefer playing with older players. I have DMed mainly in 3rd and 3.5. I'm currently reading up on 5th and learning Roll20. I am on CST.

I might be interested in joining. I appreciate incorporating character backstories into the overall campaign. Right now I'm talking to a few different groups about joining, and going to go visit the place JediPoet suggested and ask for Chewie (with as straight of a face as I can muster), so depending on how those things play out, I may or may not be able to join another group. I'm interested though :)

Cool.
If you go. Ask for Chewie and tell him Poet sent you.
I'll do that and post results LOL.

Cool, I'll bookmark this thread and get in touch when I'm ready to move on the campaign.
