‘Excuse me, I’m looking for someone. You don't happen to know anyone who goes by DM or GM do you?’ A cloaked girl asks, looking at you from under a hood with slightly curious eyes. You can’t help but notice a burning determination from within her poisoning green eyes. ‘You do? You are?? Great! I have been looking for you!’ She beams in excitement, overjoyed, she almost leaps in the air but she restraints herself in the moment. The girl scrapes her throat and takes a more serious posture.
‘Where are my manners’ and she takes off her hood, revealing her elvish features, but something is off. As you give her a good look you start to notice bark-like skin and leafy hair and you realise she is not one of the usual elvenkinds you have encountered, she’s Eladrin.
‘I’m Xylia Nyx but most of my friends call me Summer.’ the young Eladin introduces, offering her hand to greet you. As you take her hand you can feel a firm grip and a cheeky little smile appears on her face.
‘I’ve heard you are in search of some extra muscle? Am I right?’ You give her another good look and can’t help but cock an eyebrow, she doesn’t seem like the fighting type and the wooden staff in her other hand doesn’t look too threatening either. Summer notices your puzzled look and chuckles.
‘Don’t worry, I might not look like much muscle but I can assure you I know how to pack a punch’ and taps her bicep.
‘But if it is wits or support you are looking for I can do that too! I’m very versatile!’ She stands up and mutters a few words and two panthers appear out of nothing. They roar ferociously before you hear gasps and screams of the crowd in the tavern as they are starting to panic.
‘Oh dang it!’ and with a snap of her fingers Summer makes them disappear.
‘Sorry! Nothing to fear!’ She shouts to the people before looking at the innkeeper, who is shaking his head. You can tell by his deep sigh, this might not have been the first time this has happened. It takes a moment before everything returns to normal.
‘Want a Goodberry?’ Summer offers with an awkward little smile, clearly trying to keep your mind off what just happened. As you take it out of her hand she smiles, before she perks up, her serious expression returns once more.
‘So when do I start?’ Introduction! Hello! I’m a Dutch guy (31) and I hope you enjoyed this little fragment I wrote with one of my characters in it. Just like Summer is looking for a team and some adventure, I’m looking for a group and DM/GM to join for a fun time.
Whether this is with my Eladrin Druid Summer or some other character will depend on the group. I’m pretty flexible with the role that needs to be filled but love to go wild with my character creations. Summer was part of a campaign in which she got up to level 7 before I left it, so continuing with her from that level would be nice but I can imagine starting at a lower level could be possible too. I don’t prefer to start at a higher level since I enjoy learning the class as it progresses.
Timezone: I’m from Europe and my timezone is CEST or GMT+2 and I’m looking to play on a weekly/ every two weekly basis on Thursday or Saturday. Preferably in the evening around 20:00 for 2-4 hours. It depends on the group or time and I can shift around slightly but that’s for later details. Maybe Sunday morning or around Noon my time if the group and campaign setting get me super excited but can’t do Sunday evenings. What I'm Looking for! I really love rp and like progressing the story and developing my character. Solving mysteries and combat are great too! I don’t mind slow leveling if it means we face more challenges. I rather have meaningful character / group / story growth than leveling up after each encounter. (Bring those pesky goblins and rats!)
Gaining allies, connections, learning new things is something I value a lot. I also don’t mind minor things along the way on the adventure, like going for a swim and discovering a cave and hunting for food only to run into trouble!
Campaign: Since I’m a fan of Critical Role, a Wildemount campaign or something in Exandria would be amazing! But ever since I played my Eladrin and now that the Feywild book is coming, I wouldn’t mind playing a Feywild type of adventure since it holds a special place in my heart!
Something homebrew or a mix and match I’m open to as well, I do hope we get a lot of freedom when playing in general. A session zero and starting from scratch is perfectly fine too. For a new character I think I would prefer that and if there is an existing one that thinks my Eladrin druid is a great fit, I’m open for discussion. (As long as it isn’t higher than level 7)
Summary; Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online / Discord Experience: A year as player and DM Location/Timezone: [Europe] Netherlands, CEST (GMT+2) Availability: Thursday or Saturday evening (Around 20:00) Preferred role: Player Game style:
Roleplay
solving mysteries / puzzles
Combat (Fun/Serious/experimental)
Milestone leveling (slow is fine)
Character and story progression
Lot’s of freedom (5e rules, but not set in stone, on DM’s discretion rule of cool)
I hope to find a nice dm and/or group to have a great time with together. I think I can bring a healthy dose of RP to the table as well as some good laughs.
If you think I would be a great fit for your team please reach out to me :) Thank you for your time and hope to find what I’m looking for! Kind regards, Kitsumeo
A rather short man turns around lifting the visor from his rusty helmet with a squeak to get a better look at who the voice came from, as the visor is lifted your recognise the features to be that of a Halfling. "Oh, um yes. My friends often call me DM when they want something! However for the most part I go by Starr..." As you look his armour up and down you see it has seen better days, perhaps a suit that is handed down through the family or it might not get cleaned too often. Smongst the rust you can just about gleam what looks like a pair of dodecahedron shapes being dropped by a hand onto an open book.
The Halfling fiddles with a little spring trigger button on his plated suit, resulting in a series of tomes and maps to fall out of a compartment before continuing, "and you are?"
He lets out an almost questioning sound at the mention of muscle as he looks up and down at the lady confused at the suggestion of her being a brawler, pondering for a moment and comparing the elven woman's size with the large frames of the dock workers in the establishment.
The Halfling jumps back startled at the sudden appearance of the creatures, readying a spiked maul shouting at everyone in the room to stand behind the bar.
As the beasts vanish from sight he sputters, "...wait, what just..?" as he lowers his maul. "Did you just conjure those?" Star asks and waits for a nod of confirmation before continuing, "well, refrain from such acts within the tight confines of a public tavern... last thing we want is another of those incidents!"
"Oh, we're getting to that bit already? Well alright then, let's get some information on the records..." The short Halfling pulls out a quill and begins hastily scrawling anything you share about who you are, where you're from, what your goals are and so on.
My name is Andy though most people tend to call me Starr, I'm a 34 year old English guy in the UK.
In terms of my availability, I've recently just started a game with a group on Sundays which will be playing every other week and have a long running campaign late on Fridays and another regular game on Wednesday every week. I was thinking it might be a good to set something up on Saturdays to rotate with the Sunday group.
As mentioned, I'm in the UK, so my time zone is currently GMT+1. I work weekdays until around 17:00, so usually games in the evening/night works best for me, typically from 19:00 onwards. Weekend times are a bit more flexible, though I still prefer the later start as it means I don't have to ignore family during the daytime.
I've been roleplaying for a fair while, largely in D&D universes and primarily as a DM/GM, I'm an somewhat obsessive world builder and enjoy writing stories and plots that create bonds between characters and give them a sense of purpose. I'm someone who loves roleplay with a detailed story being created as the players explore and interact with each other and what's around them.
I probably spend way too much of my spare time writing plots and ideas with complex connections between factions, nations, characters and events in the world... but I'm not precious about things being ignored by players as I often see those things as an opportunity to either use later or to create a new scenario where things have changed because of being left alone/ignored.
I'm also a fan of Critical Role and the way the team all interact with each other, engage with the storylines and the world they've built together. Personally I prefer the idea of a homebrew world as it means the group can build more of the world's lore together, but I'm not adverse to playing in Exandria or other published worlds.
How do you normally prefer to play D&D? Do you use any of the Virtual Tabletop systems like Roll20/Foundry or do you prefer more of a theatre of the mind approach with either voice/video? Do you prefer to roll virtually or with physical dice? Do you have a preferred theme for an adventure and how the characters fit into things?
If you like we could have a short chat this weekend to see if our ideas fit and then, if the talk goes well and you're interested, I could maybe put up a call out for more like-minded players for a potential session 0 for the 26th.
First, thank you for taking the time to reply and your little play on the fragment I wrote! :)
When I played my previous campaign I used Discord for voice and Roll20 for all the maps ect. and I roll my dice digitally from dndbeyond into Roll20. Which works fine for me. I DM a Wildemount campaign myself where I use the same tools, although I tend to roll with physical dice since it is usually faster, especially in a combat situation. (+ it means I have to open up less browser tabs! I think as a DM you can relate to that :D ) I also play WFR (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay) which we do in Foundry, so not unfamiliar with that either.
Mostly I can imagine how the scene looks from the description, although maps from a city or town as well as combat maps are very welcome. Doesn't have to be super detailed but having some visual can help with the scope of the situation or scale.
With my previous campaign I started with Tales from the Yawning Portal and from there we followed different adventures mixed with homebrew in-between. Which worked fine, although at some point the campaign strayed from my interest, which led to me leaving the group. There was no drama or fighting, but somethings changed which bothered me, resulting in my character (and me) not feeling as involved anymore into the overall story.
I enjoy exploring the world and uncovering the secrets within it and the secrets of my party (if they have any) I also like having my character grow along the way. (Be it personal growth, connections, wealth, fame, ect) For me a challenge doesn't always have to be combat, but can also involve preventing a fight from happening and some political matters are fine too. Depending on the character I bring to the world, I like them to have a certain goal to work towards to. Which I hope through discussion with the DM can be part of the world, that at a later stage will be achieved / or failed by my character. Obviously the overall problem the group has to face is important too! Since you need an overall goal to work towards to, or a certain threat that has to be dealt with together. (Team building!) Character wise I'm pretty versatile and can create one that fits the campaign world and setting. I do like building backstories and will certainly discuss this or any new developments with the DM before applying them into a session.
We can discuss things further this weekend that is no problem. Although a session 0 on Satuday 26 tricky for me, I have something during the day and not sure if I would be back on time in the evening. In the new month so the 3rd and on I'm pretty much unoccupied. But that gives some more time to look for more like-minded players, so not necessarily a bad thing if our ideas and interests after the talk are still on the same page.
Do you have a preferred time or day when you like to talk about this some more?
Nick is not stealthy(1). Creeping after Jae, he was far too bewildered by the lithe movement of her body and traces of demoniac nature. Crack. the broken barrel splinters. A horribly hung over green face pops over the kegs outside the brewery.
The goblin shrieks and dashes into the brewery.
A brass dragonborn noble unleashes his breath. Dragon fire bathes the still. The infamous "Dragons breath" whiskey was brewed here.
Hisss KABOOM!
Smells like dirty burned bacon. Goblins fly, ten or eleven lie dead.
This is a declaration of war.
The Thirsty Boys, after a lifetime of oppression under their cruel orc bosses had, for the first time in their miserable lives, a change of fate. All the beer and whiskey they can drink, all the takings of the business, no living inhabitants and a gold eye of Gruumsh as payment.
They drank and drank and trashed the place, broke every window and most of the furniture. Party on, and when you pass out? don't worry, there's more.
Now their still god was broken and their precious liquor burned. Somehow they rallied themselves...
Whipped into a fury by their boss, the remaining goblins grabbed their weapons and charged out into the awaiting adventurers.
Blasted by Gecko's magic fire, and decimated by Nick's sword and arrows the goblins couldn't get ahead, each time one of the attackers went down. they were restored by Jae's administration of healing potions. Finally, their boss dead and their bows strings broken by devilish unluck (two ones in a row), the remnants of the Thirsty boys fled.
I'd say I'm largely the same when it comes to using either Roll20/Foundry, using them to provide maps for combat scenes or layouts of important settlements. I'll usually also have an image up for certain scenes to give a sort of feel of the environment, such as a meeting room, a market or a wilderness image as I find it sometimes help to spark imaginations.
Yeah, I definitely tend to use physical dice for a lot of things when DMing as well... even with two monitors I find I have a mad amount of windows and tabs open.
One of my current campaigns in my homebrew world are running a somewhat roleplay heavy story with a major focus on mystery and exploration, they're currently investigating connections between the corruption within the politics that run one a nation where some of their characters live and the potential links between what is happening at the moment in relation to an organisation of ill intent.
Aiming for a start on the 3rd would most definitely work for me, that should give a good amount of time for recruitment and some group chatter via text/voice chat to toy with character and world ideas.
I would be free at various times tomorrow to chat. I reckon I'll be out shopping around 11:30-12:30 (CEST), then will be having a late dinner around 20:00-20:45 (CEST) but should be otherwise available for the majority of the day for any discussions. Otherwise, I'd also be available Mon-Wed at around 20:30 (CEST) for about 40 minutes.
Edit:
@justanotherfalseprophet afraid Thursdays would be a toughie for me.
Hey justanotherfalseprophet, Thank you for taking the time to write that entertaining little story fragment! It was very enjoyable! Were you interested in dming or as a player?
At the moment I'm also looking what SurrenStarr has in mind for a possible Saturday campaign, which is on a day that had my preference slightly more due to the fact that my old campaign also took place on a Saturday. Since I can't do two days, I will let you know once I have spoken to him!
I do a brief writeup (like the above) after most sessions.
I am currently available as a DM and as a player. I have had some requests and am putting together a 1st level group but we have no fixed times as of yet.
As I can see that you have a good imagination (which is really the requirement for enjoyable gaming) I would be glad to have your association. At the time of your post, I had just joined a group (as a player) that was looking to play on Saturdays, however, that did not manifest.
That's the post for the group I am putting together, starting LVL1 so this is probably not for you
I am happy to either DM or play, filling whatever need is there. At present it seems there are far more players than DMs. I am willing to give 3 time slots a week to this and have capacity to run multiple groups.
That is very cool that you do brief write-ups after your sessions.
I had a look at your post but I see you are all leaning towards Monday which I can't do, but that's fine since it looks like you have a lot of interest already :) It is true that there are more players than there are dm's, for me since I already dm a game, I desired to be a player in another :)
My conversation with SurrenStarr was very positive and we are planning to set something up for Saturday, a post will follow coming week. I will let you know when it is up so if you are interested in joining as a player you can post a reply to that message if it captures your interest.
Otherwise I will wish you lots of fun with your own games!
"let me reveal myself, sorry, but I was using mask of the wild in the shade part of the tavern. I like to be cautious that way, I have had my lot of surprises in taverns before.
Hello everyone, I am Atin, an elven ranger with a knack for hunting colossus. It feels like we could form quite the group if we allied ourselves to fight evil. As a folk hero, I always like to help people, help secure villages, help them grow crops, and wander in the wild. I also like to help people get rid of orc, goblin, giant attacks and make sure they won't come back.
I believe in second chances and redemption and despite the hate those beast have towards elves, I always try diplomacy first.
People call me the hunter since we've killed a giant attacking our village with my sidekick Ruby. I can adapt to the party, terrain and enemy, and I think with time I could be an asset."
So hello :) I am 37, from France, and I would very much like to join this party!
My real name is Christophe, I would be up on evenings and Saturdays, I can adapt to the party. I have only played D&D once, but have been watching Critical Role and only crave more!
I like RP, exploring and combat. As Summer said, swimming or hunting just to find trouble (or not) is fine by me.
I am quite new to D&D so I would have to learn quite a bit. I like as well milestone progression, when I played I was rolling from D&D beyond into astral tabletop where the maps and everything was happening. However, I can use whatever tools the group chooses to use.
I know I am answering a bit late, but this is the topic that interested me the most and I thought I'd give it a try.
Hello Christophe! I liked your reply a lot! Unfortunately I forgot to close this post since I already found a group some months ago, that is my bad! (We have already 7 players and 1 dm so it's pretty full deck already) But I have high hopes that you will find a group too! Even-though you say you are still new to D&D I'm positive you will do great judging what I read :)
Again sorry that I forgot to close it! But I'm sure if you post what you have written here to another group, you are golden :D Or if you create a similar post like mine since this was what you were looking for, I'm positive other players will reach out!
Wishing you the best! You can copy paste elements from my post if that makes it easier for you to set something up!

Hello Andy/ Starr,
First, thank you for taking the time to reply and your little play on the fragment I wrote! :)

Hmmm... Now those sound like players. So many choices, so many locations. What can I offer?
Maybe I should just leave this here

Otherwise, I'd also be available Mon-Wed at around 20:30 (CEST) for about 40 minutes.
Edit:
@justanotherfalseprophet afraid Thursdays would be a toughie for me.
Hey justanotherfalseprophet,
Thank you for taking the time to write that entertaining little story fragment!
Kind regards,
Kitsumeo

I had a look at your post but I see you are all leaning towards Monday which I can't do, but that's fine since it looks like you have a lot of interest already :)
It is true that there are more players than there are dm's, for me since I already dm a game, I desired to be a player in another :)
My conversation with SurrenStarr was very positive and we are planning to set something up for Saturday, a post will follow coming week. I will let you know when it is up so if you are interested in joining as a player you can post a reply to that message if it captures your interest.
Otherwise I will wish you lots of fun with your own games!
A discrete voice, out of nowhere says:
Thanks for considering me.
Take care :)
Hello Christophe!
I liked your reply a lot! Unfortunately I forgot to close this post since I already found a group some months ago, that is my bad!
(We have already 7 players and 1 dm so it's pretty full deck already)
But I have high hopes that you will find a group too! Even-though you say you are still new to D&D I'm positive you will do great judging what I read :)
Again sorry that I forgot to close it! But I'm sure if you post what you have written here to another group, you are golden :D
Or if you create a similar post like mine since this was what you were looking for, I'm positive other players will reach out!
Wishing you the best! You can copy paste elements from my post if that makes it easier for you to set something up!
Kind Regards,
Kitsumeo
Thank you so much for your message Kitsumeo. I assumed as much, but had to try :)
You are right, I will make my own topic, thank you for encouraging me :D
Have a good day and have fun :)
