This city has a way of captivating your attention, doesn’t it? When the rain pounds on the streets in its rhythmic way, and the Amber Eyes are nowhere in sight? This place where the steeples of buildings breach the sky, reaching towards the clouds, where the characteristic hum of The Howling Winds fills the air as they streak by, leaving naught by the faint crackle of discharged arcana in their wake. At the tops of buildings, and on Lily Lane, extravagant parties never seem to cease, filled by those who count themselves amongst the lucky and the rich.
The music and the chatter from these assemblies spills down to the streets, where multicolored lights dance in the reflections of puddles. People bustle to and fro under the rails traveled by The Howling Winds, some ducking into alleys and bars to avoid the rain while others walk on their way. Just off the street, a tiefling ducks into a dimly lit bar; he’s greeted by others of his kind as he holds a bag filled with gold, the score from a small heist on the other side of the city. His reward is a cheer, a pat on the back, and a singular golden coin. He’s moved up in the ranks. Elsewhere, a man walks along a dark street, in a place where the arcane lights once shone bright before Xien and his gang arrived. He’s pulled into an alleyway, and before his screams can pierce through the rain, it’s too late. People watch from their windows, then draw their curtains. This isn’t their business. Further still into the narrow alleyways and near-touching tenements, orcs and half-orcs roll dice made of bone as they wonder if they’ll ever be able to leave Birgitta’s watchful eye. They murmur of wanting to go back to their homes, of wanting to see the sun again.
In a dreary little place filled with smoke and sweet, odd scents, individuals swap information and barter for weapons. Some look for the owner of the establishment, others know better than to seek out the Jade Hand. No matter the case, everyone leaves satisfied in one way or another, some without a care in the world. They wander back out into Alley Arcana, and are greeted by the few street performers and diviners who brave the rain for a bit of coin. Still below, kobolds and goblins patrol the vast and winding expanse of tunnels that make up the city’s underbelly, a thief’s dream brought to life by brick and mortar. They catch glances of the cloudy sky through storm drains and grating, occasionally catching bits of conversation they can sell at a later date. Still deeper in this maze of tunnels, the shadows will suddenly become too deep. People swear up and down that you should never, ever, look behind you when the shadows stretch in front of you. All of this falls under a singular watchful eye.
