Most of the time you are going to have to look for people looking for players. Just saying you are a player doesnt usually work. There are a lot more players than dms so find a DM LFP and try to get in with them. Most will take NOOBS so dont worry about that

i recommend looking for a "lost mines of phandelver" campaign. this is a good starter campaign which DMs run for noobs :)
