Hi everyone, my name is Anna (she/her), I’m a DM running Candlekeep Mysteries and I’m looking for a player to join our party since unfortunately one had to leave recently. The campaign has been going on for a few weeks already, we have completed the first 6 chapters of the Candlekeep book. There is currently 3 players in the party (ranger, sorcerer and wizard), party is level 6. Each book chapter is technically a one-shot, whereas in practice each one takes 2 or 3 sessions, the party levels up in between the chapters.
We are playing using roll20 + discord, we’ve got a discord server for the campaign and use the discord for voice chat (we don’t use cameras), we use roll20 for maps, rolling dice, character sheets, tokens etc. Some of the players also use the beyond20 extension but that’s completely optional and I don’t use it myself. We do insist on everyone rolling dice through roll20, if you need to roll your physical dice, this is not a game for you, sorry.
About the campaign
This is not so much a campaign as a series of one-shots very vaguely connected by the fact that each one starts in Candlekeep and that is also when the party is staying in between adventures. Do not expect any overarching plot, a “main villain or anything else binding the campaign together, it’s pretty much a series of separate, disjoined chapters. This is not a sandbox or open-world game, we are playing through the adventures in the order they appear in the book, every chapter has a plot hook that the party is expected to engage with but apart from this initial bit of railroading to get the quest started, you have complete freedom in how you approach the adventure. I do realise this campaign premise will not be up everyone’s alley and that’s fine, I am looking for people who like one-shots and a a campaign made out of a sequence of them sounds like fun.
About the DM
I am very inexperienced, started DMing around 4 month ago, this is my first campaign, apart from it I’ve ran a couple of oneshots, all in all I’ve got probably around two dozen sessions under my belt, so if you expect perfection from your DMs, this is probably not a good fit for you. As I’m still learning, I will make mistakes and stumble from time to time but I am VERY receptive to feedback, enthusiastic and do my best to give my players lots of fun and a great experience. To filter people who don’t read, please start the answer to the last question with the word “orange”, then complete your response as normal. I run mostly by RAW (rules as written), with a bit of RAI (rules as intended) and common sense mixed in and any ambiguities are almost always resolved in favour of the players. I do not use rule of cool (I guess I will lose a lot of you at this point), as I think it is much more rewarding for the players to pull off their cool things by finding a legit way to do it within the rules rather than have it work because the DM said so.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a nice and friendly player, experience or lack thereof doesn’t matter, I’m happy to guide a beginner through the first few sessions, what is important is that you are a team player and your fun doesn’t come at the expense of other players. The game style is quite relaxed, we do focus on playing D&D when we meet for a session but sometimes we make a quick joke or a comment out of character, we’re not a strict “stay in character at all times” group, ideally looking for a laid-back person with a sense of humour but one that knows when to be serious too. No rules lawyers, drama queens/kings, spotlight hogs, murderhobos or any other types of toxic and disruptive players please, thank you. There is no PvP in this campaign. Strictly over 18 please, ideally 25+ as other group members are all in their mid to late twenties. If you have made through this wall of text, weren’t put off and this sounds like something you think would enjoy, please fill in this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSempRAvH07oiqKRE0xX6-bmLv6sk83Zeymuj93Pr8OyyOIIhA/viewform?usp=sf_link
This is not first come, first served, I will leave this form open for a few days, then review the responses together with the group and will be in touch with the person that we think is the best match. If you would like some more information, please either comment below or send me a private message.
