The good news is 5e is way easier than what you used to play.

I started playing in the 80’s, I remember how hard it was, then quit playing because everyone moved away. Started playing again when my 9 year old daughter watched stranger things and wanted to try it.
I have the essentials kits if you want to try 5e out. All you need is discord and DnD beyond. I am est also, just a little south of you.

Thanks man, I played Oriental Adventures mixed with 2e AD&D when it first came out if that tells you anything haha

All of our games were homebrewed using those as reference books.
Seems like we never could keep a character longer than 4th level…. Wonder if our DM was killing us off so he wouldn’t have to buy the blue box set…….
