The year is 32 P.N.C. (post-new interplanar cataclysm) in a world called Nelir (NELL-eer). 72 years ago, there was a great interplanar cataclysm, coined the Devilseve, which released dangerous creatures onto the prime material plane. Demons, fiends, aberrations, and worse rolled throughout Alithel (AL-ith-el), the central, largest, and most prosperous continent in Nelir. They entered from the west and worked their way east toward the center, killing, destroying, and stealing what they could along their path. After a four-decade-long battle, the intruders were finally fought back to the planes from which they came, although some still remain in hiding, attacking from time to time. Much was stolen and destroyed; the survivors have since been rebuilding the world and trying to understand what was lost by searching for ancient relics and ruins.
As the attack began westward with a large portal opening in the sky, the kingdom hit the hardest was Drellorn (DRELL-orn), which stretches along the southwestern coast toward central Alithel. With little time to react - and as a predominantly impoverished region, almost entirely lying in tropical and subtropical wetlands - Drellorn was ravaged, having its largest cities reduced to nothing. Some smaller settlements remained standing; others were newly erected by survivors of the onslaught. Losing its most prosperous cities, resources thereafter were focused on rebuilding the one that survived, Adon Raul, which became its new capital; the rest of Drellorn would be left to fend for themselves, both from the environment and world at large, as well as the continuing attacks from lingering intruders.
Our journey takes place 32 years after the end of the war, when the attacks retreated to the large, sky bound portal and sealed it behind them. You, the adventurers, have met in a large city at the nearest edge of the wealthy adjacent kingdom, Tyfilyr (TIE-fill-eer), and, for reasons of your own, have decided to band together, travel to the impoverished wetlands of Drellorn, and help those in need by uncovering potential hidden portals and slaying unwelcome intruders. Along your travels, you find your way to a small settlement, the first in many days. Eager to get a night’s rest out of the rain with a roof over your heads and a bed to lie on, you make your way to the sole tavern - but, instead, you learn that the people here need help, and you think you might be just the ones to do it.
Hi there! My name is Jor (she/her), I'm 28, and I'm a Canadian living in Finland. I've just finished DMing my first game which was played weekly for just under 3 months in my homebrew world. My plan is to explore this world through a series of one shots and minis, so with that, this one shot was born! 3 of my 4 players will be returning to play, but the last cannot due to a new work schedule. I have since picked up one new player, bringing us to 4, and I am looking for one or two more to fill our party to 5 or 6 total. My group has different levels of experience but are relatively new on average. We are LGBTQ+ and BIPOC friendly and happy to have anybody of any experience level join us, but 18+ is required as we are all adults. We have our moments speaking/playing in character, but we also have a lot of laughs.
My style of DMing is fairly laid back. As a new DM, I do ask for some leniency, especially as this is all homebrew. I tend to go by RAI as long as you're not intentionally rulebending to gain an unfair advantage, and the rule of cool will always be considered if what you're trying is not completely unjustifiable. I cannot offer you a wide range of voices as I'm just a nerd, not a voice actor; I can offer you flavourful descriptions, custom made virtual maps, a respectful and kind environment, and space to ask questions and get in character. I am hugely into character creation and development - as this is a one shot, I don't need a massive backstory, but I would like to work with you a little to ensure your idea fits into the world I have created (we will find a way to make your idea work). With that being said, if you want to create a huge, in depth backstory, I will be happy to do that with you out of the passion for it, but just be aware there won't be a ton of time for freeform RP in a one shot.
The game will be run on either Wednesday, December 15 or Friday, December 17 at approximately 9:30am GMT+2 (just waiting to hear from two returning players on which works better for them). Because my current players are so great, I am going to be a bit picky on who I add in to the mix to ensure they will be a good fit, so I would like to chat a little bit before we decide if we are a good match for each other. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and meeting some more D&D friends! If you're interested in joining, please reply with the info below:
Name: Pronouns we should use: Age: Experience with D&D: Preferred play style: Does Wed, Dec 15 or Fri, Dec 17 at roughly 9:30am GMT+2 work for you?: Anything else you'd like to add?:
Table rules are below. Please ensure you read and agree to them before expressing interest in playing.
Age must be 18+. This table is intended for mature players and mature topics may be included in the game.
Character sheetswill be on D&D Beyond.Maps/VTT will be on the AboveVTT extension for Google Chrome which works via D&D Beyond.
Voice only will be used in Discord. Please make sure you know how to use Discord prior to starting, and ensure your input/output devices are properly set up and working. Players must use Push To Talk to eliminate background noise, which can be very distracting for other players.
Absolutely no hate speech or bullying(racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, et cetera) will be tolerated. Anything of this nature and/or intended with malice will result in your being removed from the table and game. D&D is for everybody.
No graphic sexual content or connotations. Let’s make sure everybody stays comfortable.
Show respect for the DM and for the other players. It can be hard to find a D&D group that is a good match for you. One shots and minis are a great way to play the game in a low-commitment way, but you are bound to find people you unfortunately don’t mesh with along the way. If you really don’t get along with a player or the DM, remember that this is not a long term campaign and it will be over soon. Please try to be respectful, show kindness, and finish it out. If a player is causing problems at the table, they will be removed. Let’s be adults.
Off-limit topics: Prior to the game starting, I will discuss with each player privately if they have any topics that they deem to be off limits for them (ie. certain types/levels of violence, offensive language, etc). I will make sure all players are aware of off-limit topics before we begin. If at any point during a session a player is uncomfortable with something happening, they can either send me a quick private message on Discord just saying something as simple as “bad topic, can we please move on”, or speak up by using our table’s safe word, LEMON PIE. In either case, the DM will then inform the table we should move on to a new topic or discussion, and the table should promptly move on. If you choose to send me a private message in this way, I will not reveal which player sent the message to the group to ensure a safe environment and privacy for everyone.
