Play by Post would be where we'd roleplay in a forum or in messages, each of us describing what our character does next in the message and just continuing with the game whenever we can. This type of play is convenient for me, as my schedule is somewhat in flux, and it's hard to set aside specific appointed times for roleplaying games.
