Game style: Flexible-I'm new, so I don't know my preference yet.
So I've been doing some homework, both online and reading books. I've never played before, but I'm very keen on learning. I have the handbook, DMG, MM, Xanthar's, as well as the essentials kit. I would like to find a group with some other new players to learn with so that I'm not bogging anyone down, but an experienced group with a little patience up front would be great too.
There are plenty of local shops that have daily games you could drop into. The places I would recommend are 'ReRoll Tavern' (Near North Kansas City Hospital) which is where I run a few games weekly, 'Pawn & Pint' which is downtown KC near the River-market, 'Mind Games and Magic' which is in Lees Summit and 'TableTop Game and Hobby' in Overland Park on Metcalf near 435 Hwy. All of these places have Facebook pages (ie Roleplaying at ReRoll Tavern) that DMs list the games in advance that they will be running. Reroll also run AL Epic events every quarter (next in late January). There are several more games stores in KC, which I believe have games, but the four I provided are likely more active. There are also several conventions each year that have many (20+) sessions running the weekends the events are. The main conventions are KantCon (July), MidWest GameFest (November) while there are usually Epics ran at Planet Comicon (May) and Kansas City Comicon (September).
