I have DM'd a few games but I would say I am a novice still. I have no experience as a player so I am super keen to join a campaign as a player for a year or so.

I would like to ask what do you mean by - magic is unstable? using magic has consequences? - just so that I can start thinking about a potential character.

I am going to be using and expanding upon, Supernatural Regions from Tasha's Cauldron where a random magical effect can be triggered in response to something(usually as a spell), for example, someone cast a spell then someone turns into a blink dog for no reason.

Also, spells will work differently in some areas, for example in one area all spells that are supposed to deal fire damage instead deal cold damage.

And about the schedule, I will have to wait for more players and see what their schedules look like, but I believe that will be fine. 

(I will be adding a system where when if someone expends a spell slot, they take the level of the spell, times it by 10 then subtract their caster level, then roll a d100, trying to beat that number, if they roll under or meet the number, then they will roll another d100 to determine what happens. This is to represent the unstable magic and the skill of the caster. For example, a 3rd level wizard cast a first level spell, then the number they have to beat is (1*10) - 3 = 7)

Sounds great, this (link below) is the start of my Level 3 changeling rogue. I still need to work on the backstory. But Sam is a psionic rogue with a spy/thief/criminal background. Any guidelines on character backgrounds?
