Game: D&D 5e (Curse of Strahd or Tyranny of Dragons if possible) Group preferred: Online (Discord, Foundry, Roll 20, etc.) Experience: A few years Location/Timezone: CST (Texas) Availability: Most often available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5 or 6 pm for start times. Preferred role: Player Game style: A mix of combat and Role-playing; hoping for some puzzle-solving if possible.
I am a 30 year old man and I've been playing D&D as a DM for since 2019. While it is enjoyable, I do miss the times of being a Player which hasn't happened since 2019 when I had a falling out with a group thanks to lack of communication on house rules from the DM. I want to recapture that spark of being a Player again as the campaign I'm running will be coming to a close soon.
I'll never forget the moment when I tricked a bandit into catching my bag of coins, leaving himself open to a Nat 20 slice from my Paladin's longsword which felled him in one blow. I finished that with a one-liner of, "Looks like you fell apart." I'll also never forget the victory my other Paladin achieved against a powerful veteran in a sparring match with our fists. He outclassed my Paladin in striking power, so I got the win through grappling him and choking him out to force a submission. (My female Paladin become my instant favorite at that point)
It is moments like these that I can never seem to recapture as a DM. Hence why I'm putting out a call to any Dungeon Master who can help me. I am looking for a Dungeon Master who is willing to go beyond the standard in modules; creating backstories for characters to make them feel like they belong to the world they created. I am looking for a group who is welcoming and works for cooperation, not selfishness or doing actions that is harmful to their party because "it's what their character would do". (It's part of what makes me not trust players who play evil characters due to them not knowing how to play that alignment properly without ending the campaign early which has happened before with me)
Give me a chance to play in your campaign and I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to make my character fun to interact with for both my teammates and the Dungeon Master. One last thing I'd like to ask is a Session Zero if possible so that I can understand what house rules you have in place for your game. Communication goes a long way with me.
