About me: I am Chris (30). I am your average polish guy living in Japan studying neuroscience. I have been trying to get into 5e for about a year now but the locals aren't too keen on TTRPGs and the online services are so swarmed with players looking for groups that I managed to score just a one-shot and a game of 'lost mines(...)' in this time. In the past I used to play mostly GURPS and other systems like Earthdawn, oldschool Neuroshima (which you might know as a board game nowadays) and an odd one shot of older editions of DnD here and there.
Timezone: JST (equivalent to GMT+9) but I decide my own schedule so I can work around any day any almost any time.
Play style: I like to lean into the role-play aspect of the game but I enjoy a good combat and exploring interesting places. I build my PCs with a story in mind rather than optimal damage output or such. If DM allows it and party is cool with I also like to impose some mild RP-based handicaps on my PCs . For example, Barbarian who is afraid of the things he does when he looses control of himself (so I would secretly roll something like a wisdom saving through whenever taking damage and use rage after failing) or Monk who suffered nerve damage in his arms and can interact with objects only via features granted by Way of Astral Self.
Here are a few of the characters ideas I would like to take for the spin but ofc I am open to modifying them or making new PCs to suit any campaign or making
Barthel ven Alkstein, LN, 67y/o, Variant Human Artificer (Armorer) going through late-life crisis after being forced into retirement by his guild. Thrice divorced with no heir or apprentice worthy of his legacy, Barthel liquidates all his assets to fund his greatest, and likely last, project: a suit of armour that allow even an old scholar brave dangers and slay beasts. With nothing but a working prototype he departs seeking challenges to test his creation, improve the design as needed and (although he would not admit it out loud) to prove to his esteemed colleagues that retirement is not for the likes of him!
Mavis Drozd, TN, 40y/o, Variant Human Warlock(Archfey)/Bard (Collage of Whispers) and ex-torturer for the local government (albeit his techniques are all about efficiency rather than cruelty). As a child he was taken as a pet by an Archfey which eventually traded his freedom for his sense of beauty (but all that is a blur of a memory). As he grew older he became more and more indifferent and apathetic as without beauty for comparison everything in the world became equally bland to him. Trying to understand what he is missing he spent all his free time studying all forms of art but still where some see feel moved by a melancholic melody or awed by a magnificent painting Mavis hears mathematical precise sound sequences and strokes of dried paint.
U'rlan Olch. LG 22 y/o, Half-orc Barbarian(Path of the Ancestors)/Fighter(Champion) born out of a happy union between orc mother(captain of town's militia) and human father (local blacksmith). Decades earlier a group of adventurers brokered a deal between orc deserters and villagers according to which orcs served as guards for the town in exchange for goods but as time passed the two groups merged into one and the rest is history... U'rlan joined the militia following his mothers footsteps as soon as he came of age. After few years of arresting the same drunkards causing trouble in the tavern and occasionally chasing away overly curious boars U'rlan had his firs true combat experience when town was attacked by a group of roaming bandits. In the ensuing fight a friend was mortally struck and U'rlan just... lost control for a moment. Later they showed him the mutilated corpses of those he slain, beaten into a pulp as if he did not stop bashing and cutting even long after they were dead... Since then the mood around him changed, rooms fell quiet as he entered, old friends no longer asked him out for drinks and he could constantly notice the space around him even among thickest crowds at the market. Now that people he wanted to make feel safe instead felt threaten by him, he chose to seek purpose elsewhere hoping to get rid of the blood thirst lurking under his skin.
Vyice the Orphan, TN. 30y/ Drow (Arcane Trickster). A bit cocky mercenary specialising in espionage but if the pay is good enough other odd jobs and occasional assassinations are not out of question.
