Thanks, everybody!
Game: D&D 5e Group Type: Online Experience: Any Experience Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Time Schedule: Saturdays/Sundays Afternoons/Evenings (TBD by interested peoples) Roles Sought: Players -- Looking for ~6 People Game Style: This campaign is an open-ended homebrew campaign that encourages heavy role-play. There are no limitations or restrictions on alignment or character personalities or goals.
About The DM
Hi! My name is Sage. I am a long-time D&D player with DMing experience of around 12 years. I am a laid-back DM that likes to tell a story and immerse my players in a world where their characters and their actions matter. The campaigns I run are set in the Forgotten Realms setting, but the world is altered to my desire. I tell my own stories and like to stay original while using the lore that's built in the Forgotten Realms setting. I do not run modules.
I like to play games primarily to socialize and interact with other people--this includes D&D. I like to be around people who are looking to enjoy themselves and have a good time playing with other people. I like to be around people who are relaxed, kind, and tolerant of other people. I like providing a safe and comfortable environment in where people can be free to express themselves in-game by playing any sort of persona or profile that they desire.
I don't like putting restrictions on people when it comes to playing an open-ended game like D&D and I don't like telling people that they can't run with ideas that they have. Obviously, I don't let people play a demigod right off the bat, but I like working with players so that their characters can develop towards their own goals and, given enough time and effort, I would not be opposed to characters becoming quite powerful. The point is that they need to work for it. If a player wants to become a king of some powerful kingdom, I have no problem with them working towards becoming one, but it would be something that takes a lot of time and effort and required to be role-played and built up accordingly. I believe that a good D&D campaign is set with a story in mind and is run by a DM but progressed and enjoyed through player decision and action. I set up a world for players to play in. I absolutely do not like railroading players into having to do something. It may be my story, but if players aren't enjoying themselves, then there's no point in telling it.
Other than that, I am a firm believer that D&D is a GAME. This means that I do not expect players to have perfect attendance nor am I going to judge or punish them or put pressure on them to be present at a certain time or to follow a specific agenda. Nor do I expect players to hold me to such a standard. We all have lives and it should be understood by all parties involved that we're playing a game, not working a job. At the same time, this is a GAME, not a political lobby. I, personally, am one of the most open-minded people you'll meet. I do not care about your political alignment, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. I treat all people as human beings worthy of equal respect and I adjust the respect I give you based on the kind of person you are. I do not want to and will not tolerate any sort of prejudice or judgement regarding such things. That being said, this is a GAME, so such topics should NOT come up in the first place. I obviously want all of my players to feel comfortable, but it shouldn't be a priority to make sure everyone thinks the exact same way as you do. Keep your beliefs to yourselves and enjoy the game you're here to play to get away from all of that. As long as you can be tolerant of other people and focus on the game and can enjoy yourselves, then these topics should not be something to talk about. If you can't handle being around other people because of real-world morals and belief systems, then my room is probably not for you.
Of course, if anyone does join and feels uncomfortable or unsure of themselves, I heavily encourage you to come to me to discuss any issues you may have. I, myself, have severe OCD (which you'll learn pretty quickly anyway) and am all too familiar with how it is to have disabilities and other such difficulties. As such, I want to make sure that anyone who joins my group is comfortable and taken care of. If you have any issues or anything that I need to be aware of or any specific requests that need to be followed--within reason--so that you can enjoy yourselves, I am more than happy to work with you. I, myself, have a few things that I'll have to have my players follow in order for me not to have any sort of fits, myself, but they're pretty minor and nothing that would put anyone out of their way. (I would discuss such things with people who are interested in playing. No reason to do so here.)
At the end of the day, I just want people to have a good time and be a part of a story I want to tell.
Method of Play
I have the Ultimate License for Fantasy Grounds Classic and Unity. We will be playing on Fantasy Grounds Unity. Since I have the Ultimate License, no one will need to make any purchases in order to participate in my campaign. Fantasy Grounds Unity is a free-to-download program and anyone who has the demo version can join a campaign hosted by a DM with the Ultimate License. There are no restrictions or limitations on who or how many people can join, to my knowledge. In addition, I own most of the core books for the Forgotten Realms 5e setting on Fantasy Grounds and I can share these books with anyone who joins my campaign, so no one will need to make any purchases regarding content, either. It should all be available.
Scheduling
As stated in the template above, I'm looking for people who are wanting to play on the weekends either in the afternoons or evenings. I'm looking for only one day at one time period and I'm flexible between those settings. I'm looking to host my campaign on either Saturdays or Sundays between the times of 2:00 PM, EST and 12:00 AM midnight, EST. I like to host long sessions where we can all have time to try to get stuff done, so 5-8 hour sessions are possible. I want to play for a minimum of 4 hours, as anyone who's played D&D would know, it takes a long time to get stuff done sometimes. If you are only available on ONE of those days, please still leave a post here if you're interested. The time we play is not set in stone and will be decided based on the majority of availability from interested parties.
Contact Information
Anyone who is interested should leave a post in this thread alongside a method of contact where I can reach you. My primary means of communication and the program we'll be using to communicate during sessions is Discord. People are more than welcome to send me a message on Discord regarding any questions or concerns they may have in relation to this thread. My Discord is "Sage of Souls#0182" (without the quotation marks).
Wrapping Up
If anyone needs any additional information, please feel free to ask it here or by contacting me on Discord. This campaign is a free campaign hosted by me--I don't believe is people having to pay others to DM for them; D&D is a game, not a job.
