Game: D&D 5e Group type: Face-to-face Experience: veteran (I think?) Location/Timezone: Portland, OR Schedule: Once or Twice a Month, flexible schedule planned in advance (sometimes Fridays or Saturdays are hard for me, but often I am free!) Roles sought: 3-4 players Game style: Casual, whimsy, sometimes dark, doesn't need to be RP-heavy but room for improv, some combat
Hi! my name is Ruune and I am looking to play some DND! I can run a game. Looking to do a "low entrance" game, aka, you don't have to write a huge backstory for your character, or overarching plot/world, start at level 1, doesn't have to be every week, and can change days if someone's schedule changes around.
I have been running games since I was 12 (36 now) but it feels strange to call myself a veteran, especially when new editions come out and you re-learn everything! But I have been telling stories with friends forever in the DND way, and often times used to world-build to the max and write a whole plot arc all the way to "level 20", I found lately that my ideas for a plot are never as cool as what happens naturally and organically when the players interact with characters and a world that is slowly forming as you play it. I like settings, characters, and stories that leave room for things to be cute sometimes, dark sometimes, badass sometimes, sad sometimes, you get the idea maybe!
So I would really love to run a game where we just use a mix of downloaded/purchased/homebrew small time adventures, I can change the names and add my own flavor to things, you can tell me what you want to see in the different areas, you can start the game with a small idea of who you want your PC to be, and can RP out the backstory as we play and things come up naturally (or unnaturally, etc). I dunno, it doesn't have to be strict like that, but I just think that would take a lot of pressure off all parties involved. I usually use music to set a tone or make people laugh or be generally theatric.
You don't have to be a goody two shoes character, but being willing to help out folks in need (even begrudgingly) would be helpful! Or go with the flow, I dunno, we can talk about it! I would also prefer to just have folks start with basic character options from the players handbook so I don't have to think as much :)
Feel free to respond here or email me at ruuneverse@protonmail.com (I am gay, genderqueer, and take part in mutual aid and volunteer work if that makes you more comfortable responding!)
PS - if I don't find an in person group, will probably open up to playing over zoom or something, so feel free to email me so I can keep you in mind if that interests you!
I just sent you an e-mail but figured I'd respond here as well just in case!
I just saw your post on Dndbeyond and am definitely interested in starting a game with two of my friends! In terms of experience, they are on the newer side but have a lot of exposure to DnD through things like Dimension 20 and Critical Role, and I'm currently in another campaign and have pretty extensive DnD knowledge (at least from a player's perspective in 5e), so I'd be more than happy to help you guide them.
Random side notes:
- I absolutely love writing character backstories and worldbuilding, but I agree that nothing quite compares to things organically unfolding in the moment
- I and one of the two friends are gay males; the other is a straight (gross, I know) female
- "Casual, whimsy, sometimes dark" with a blend of RP and combat sounds fantastic
- We are all located in NE Portland and ideally would be able to bike/bus to your place
- We are all mid 20s to mid 30s
Please let me know if you have any questions for me, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
