I am a 33 year old male and I've been playing DnD off and on for 20+ years but never had a stable play group and thus never able to learn much of the rules. For the last 3 years I have been running campaigns using a version of B/X DnD rules and have managed to make my own discord server that has been going strong since then. Just last year I started to DM 5e for some folks I have met through discord by converting B/X adventures over to 5e. It was fairly successful and the players quite enjoyed it which has led me to want to branch out more and learn 5e a bit better to be able to start homebrewing or running 5e modules.
All of my experience so far has been through play by post as this is what works best for my schedule. I would like to continue with finding a play by post group to join. I own the 3 core books and read them enough to be able to DM my games for my players but I still have major gaps in understanding certain mechanics. I figured the best way to learn is by playing so I am hoping to find a patient group that is willing to teach me along the way.
