Game style: I'm looking for an RP intensive experience with mature adults. I don't want to play with kids or people just looking to kill things. No power gaming please! I spend a lot of time developing my character's origin, background, and personality and I want to play with others that match my flair for the dramatic!
Thanks for the reply Freya! I'm wondering if there are many like us playing these days? Most of what I see are "newbie friendly" games and such. I just don't have patience for that. I guess we can keep this thread alive and see what happens.
I did see a post about a "theater of the minds eye" which I found funny. Is that what they call using your imagination these days??
I personally have no problems playing with new players as long as they are narrative-driven and love to create well thought out characters. I think the rules can be learned but a disposition to heavy RP def comes from within.
As for Theater of the Mind, it refers to playing using little input software-wise. There are lots of Virtual TTRPG programs out there that are pretty cool but personally I find them very distracting and hindering Immersion. From what I have seen it turns into a "token simulator videogamey" experience. Ergo why appreciate Theater of the Mind for the most part.
Yeah I knew what it was referring to I just find it a bit funny that a whole fancy term had to be created for what I've been doing for 30 years! I think I'm just becoming an "old codger".
I stopped playing D&D when 4E first came out (I was playing Pathfinder because 4E was TRASH) and just started back up recently. It's crazy how much tech has sprung up to support D&D in the last 10-12 years! I was uncomfortable with the notion of playing D&D any other way than face to face but I started playing with some people I know locally, via Zoom, and using D&D Beyond and I actually prefer it now. I am married with 4 kids so not having to drive somewhere else to play is actually incredibly convenient. We started out using Roll20 for the game but IMO it's a bit dated and I don't like using it. I don't necessarily need tokens and maps to visualize the game.
Anyway I've only gotten one other reply from this post...and that person wanted me to pay $10 to play. Nah...
Specifically looking for a group that wants to play on Zoom/Skype or some sort of video chat. I find RP hard without facial expressions and mannerisms. Thanks!
Looking for a DM that paints a picture with words.
Average DM: "Ok a 16 hits. Roll damage. The monster looks hurt but still up."
What I'm looking for: "You bring your longsword down across the chest of the gnoll and feel the resistance as steel meets flesh. Your blade opens a gash across it's chest and the gnoll screams in pain and reels from the impact."
I wrote the original Theater of the Mind post you referred to. I spent days on here looking for the right fit; I just assumed it would be easy to find. Nope.
I don't have as much experience as you do, but if Sunday nights from 6-10 central time works for you, I'd love to have you at my "table." I'll be running one of the prewritten modules, tweaked of course, with backstories woven in.

You could join us every Monday 10h30am EST? Level 1. Already TPK. We are also narrative-driven but not so graphic as you are.
