Who: 4-5 people with great imaginations and me, your trusted DM
What: A premade campaign run entirely with 'Theater of the Mind;" no VTT or minis/maps.
When: Sunday evenings in a 3-4 hour time window between 5PM and midnight CDT
Where: Discord or Zoom; Voice for sure, video is your choice (I will be on video)
Why: Because you want immersion and top down VTTs and UIs are not what you're looking for.
I want to run a premade campaign using just 'theater of the mind'--no VTT--and I'm looking for 4-5 players of any experience who are interested in a weekly, weekend game. Whether you've been playing for 40 years or 40 minutes, we all have imagination and want to be immersed in this Faerun world.
Especially if you are on here thinking of the technology as a hindrance rather than an attraction, I'm looking for you.
As stated above, this would be a once a week game, 3-4 hours for each session, on either Saturday or Sunday, as decided by the group.
I will be running one of the premade adventures from DND, haven't decided which one, wanted to get players' input (not Curse of Strahd b/c I'm hopefully about to be a player in that and don't want spoilers!). I have a bit of experience running games and I think I'm pretty good at the RP aspects. (I mean I'm no Matthew Mercer, but I might be like, I don't know, his cousin Mark or something. I hope.)

Reason why you're interested in Theater of the Mind style play:
Reason why you're interested in Theater of the Mind style play: It's how I was first introduced to dnd when I started playing so I kinda miss the style, it was fun!
Reason why you're interested in Theater of the Mind style play: It's a much more immersive way to play for me personally and I find the imagination works much better when it doesn't have to be engaged. It also adds a lot more flavour and immersion to the gameplay as you embody your character!
Reason why you're interested in Theater of the Mind style play: while visuals can be useful as a reference, I'm primarily in it for an immersive experience where the gameplay is laid out through descriptions. I'm also looking for a roleplay and character heavy game and this sounds like a good option.
Why Theater of the Mind? Because it allows to engage the imagination, promotes immersion and focuses on rollplay. I'm def a person that looks for connection and interaction with other players. I'm looking for people that are engaged in their characters and the situations and want to be taken to the situation as irl and experience it fully. Unafraid of jumping into a new reality holding the hands of the people you are playing with and imo Theater of the Mind is by far the most engaging.
I would appreciate for Cam usage as well since we can see the reactions and non verbal queues.
Never heard of theater of the mind, but I am getting back in to d&d after a 30 year break, so I am new to 5e and rp online but willing to give it a shot.
Thanks for the interest! Unfortunately Sunday nights are when the game will be, and it's sounds like that won't work out for you. Let me know if your availability changes!
I don't feel derailed at all. I've gotten great responses from my post in general. I find, personally, that my lack of tech know how keeps me from enjoying the game. And being able to DM without having to learn any software is freeing for me.
Neither of us is right or wrong. Just differences in how we want to play the game. And as a friend said, that's the beauty of DND. It can be properly enjoyed either way.
Reasoning: I’m a new player and will probably be playing on my phone and a VTT sounds like a hassle. Also, I want to play in an immersive world with lots of RP, and this sounds like the best way to do that.
Also, I’m can’t play after 10 pm but we can start and end at any time before then if we’re playing on the weekends. Weekdays are iffy.
