D&D has a long association with different genres of music. Heavy metal is the most prominent of course, its throb driving many an epic combat, & folk. Historically recreated music, bardcore & dungeon synth.
This game isn’t any of that. It’s Jimmy Buffet & yacht rock. It’s Burn Notice, Blue Crush, & Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. It’s also my variation on Wizards of the Coast’s Ghosts of Saltmarsh, which I'm running by means of Discord & Astral.
Saltmarsh is a beach town, breeze-caressed & quaint. The food here is all curries, ceviche, margaritas, & refreshing lagers with limes floating in the mug. The landscape is marked by sun-blasted bungalows, worn marble, salt-tattered clothes, and sandals abandoned in the sand. And the gulls, always the gulls. So many seagulls, picking at the trash that blows down the cobbles & across the sand. On its way out & on its way back in, the sun glints on the ocean, bringing squinted tears to even the hardest mortal face. Ever-present among the fishermen, traders, & shipwrights whose bustle makes up the life of the town are the tourists, the surfers, the escapees from the politics of the kingdom’s cities (& the memories of what they did in the military morass that is the kingdom’s northern borders), the beauty-seekers, & the beach bums. This is a counterculture of the resort class, in a culture WITHOUT resorts. Among them is the Guild for Gulls, invested by the town council at the insistence of an aasimar upon whose head sometimes sits a tongue of flame, who resembles naught more than a seagull themself. The Guild is a home for those who feel called to the gull-magics & the gull-ways, whether they thrive through brawn, brains, deftness, magic, or luck. There is even a new martial art being developed among their number.
Come join, regardless of your experience level! I am MORE than happy to introduce you to D&D and RPGs in general.
This is an online game, which I will be running by means of Discord and Astral Tabletop. It is currently scheduled for every other Thursday at 6pm/18 o' clock PDT, starting at the end of June
Gameplay will be roleplay-heavy, with characters expected to have ambitions and desires shaped to living in a small beach town (that is: personal stakes, rather than epic). I am currently considering lengthening the needed time for short and long rests, which will also result in combat being a bit more desperate and tactics-dependent.
I am looking for players! I currently have up to five seats available!
We will be playing Ghosts of Saltmarsh, with a significant possibility of additional material peppered in here and there
