We need three new players in a combat-heavy soft worldbuilding game. I am dawn, the dm. Ideally, we would like high school aged players, but if you are't, that's ok. and you don't have to disclose your age. if you are younger than high school, you need parental permission. We do google meets. You don't have to have your camera on or disclose any personal information. We meet every Tuesday from 3-6 pm eastern time. This is going to start in the near future but we aren't quite sure when. New players are welcome. The description has all the trigger warnings and details. Ideally, we would like 2 spellcasters and a tank. Please don't play a warlock or bloodhunter. If you want to play a homebrew or exotic race, that's great but please talk to me so we can figure out how you got there and how you might be treated differently. I have several homebrew races if you want to play one, and I have access to all of the races in mordekans and can grant you access. Look forward to playing with you!
Description:
(read to the end, skimming paragraphs that don't apply to you)
I am Dawn, Your new dungeon master, strangers or old friends. Here is a quick overview of the campaign with about everything you need to know. For players who I've had in the past and are wondering about the number of characters per person, that depends on how many people we get. And depending on how many people we have, I may or may not have characters. This campaign, I won't be an idiot and delete all this information a week or two before someone drops out and we get a new player.
This is going to be a combat-heavy campaign.
You are adventurers of the nation of Tyral, a (mostly) human port kingdom known for trade and diplomacy. You have formed a party and gone about a few adventures, occasionally crossing over the border to explore the mines of Silverspark, a neighboring dwarven nation. You have some renown as adventures and are well known in your home towns. You were between quests, resting at a small castle awarded you by a nobleman you saved. You heard rumors of a political marriage between the human Princess Oria and the dwarven Prince Kurov. You paid it no mind s it didn't really affect you. Then you started hearing nasty rumors about SIlverspark, such as their weapons were fake or the dwarf men's beards were glued on with horsehair. you notice discrimination against dwarves in your town. Any dwarf characters also notice that market prices have gone up for them whenever they go shopping, and for economical reliability, you find it wisest to send out a human or elf friend to do your shopping(so much for making that present you were getting them a surprise!). Then you hear something that catches your adventurer's ears: war is brewing, and in this place, wars are conducted by adventuring parties(less dead people, less cost, better all-around). You check in to volunteer, as winners of such contests are awarded great sums of money, fame, and occasionally magical items. You check in to see if you're eligible.
This is where our story picks up. We hopefully won't need a session zero, as theoretically you've all met with me to discuss your characters. We need 6 characters of level 5. I can fill in any characters missing or one of you can take on a second character. My introduction is at the bottom.
Please make a specific time to go over your character with me.
Ideal Classes(please check this list before making your characters. talk to me if you want to do something else, considering the format this grouping is advisable but not mandatory. not trying to be authoritarian, trying to be a good DM and give you a chance to survive):
2 Spellcasters(Sorcerers/Wizards)- 0
2 Tanks(Paladins/Fighters/Barbarians)- 1
1 Healer(Bard/Cleric/Druid)- 1
Optional- Distance fighter(Ranger) or Tank- 1
If you want your character to be from Silverspark- groovy! Totally talk to me and we can work out your motivation, conflict, and loyalties. thoughts to have in mind if you do such a character(which would have been reasonable before the war, but is now facing conflict and persecution): Why does your character want to join the tournament for Tyran(for example: you had a fall out with an official in your home land; you are deeply in love with a Tyranian; you swore to stand by your fellow adventures)? How does loyalty(or hatred) of your homeland influence your decision? With which side does your sympathy lay? How does the xenophobic hatred of you influence you? Would you rather go back home?
Note: Tyran characters gain a natural bonus to charisma. Silverspark characters are proficient with smiths tools.
As always, this is a clean campaign: remain appropriate at all times, no swearing, respect mental health, avoid triggers(if you are uncomfortable with something, simply go to the chat and enter the capital letter X. No judgment, no questions asked, the topic will change.), and will be done on google meet, the link is at the bottom of the page. we meet on Saturdays from __-__. You may or may not have your camera on, depending on what you feel comfortable with. No evil-aligned characters unless your alignment becomes non-consensually changed. If you have triggers that you feel comfortable sharing, you can private message EchoFrost (me), to go ver what I should avoid and see if this campaign is right for you. I swear I won't judge, I have trauma-based triggers too. A brief overview of possible triggers:
-Gladiator style battles and tournaments
-Racism and Xenophobia
And of course, the dumber the barbarian, the better.
My name is Dawn. I am a high school student with too many campaign ideas and too short of Saturdays. I love school, animals, and writing. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I'm (proudly) autistic. I have 2 cats(not counting my mom's cat who I feed); Onyx and Krystian. I also have 2 rabbits, but one of them is insanely shy and one of them is unaware of her claws and has accidentally given me scars. I have 1 dog, Rider. And my goose, April(when you hear screaming in the background, its either Krystian, April, or my brother). my computer's microphone doesn't work so I have to use another one. i lose my train of thought easy. I dig grammar. as of writing this, by autistic speacil interest is the Monkees(a band/tv show from the 60s). I could talk your ear off about the monkees, but i try not to. I also draw my dnd characters, but without faces because that's a stone drag and i don't feel like it. my favorite dnd character at the moment is a traumatized eladrin elf wizard named Andri. i don't know why, but i think his emo-ness(and trauma) is adorable. he is my brain-child(he's also like 10x older than me, but he's an elf), though i do feel bad about having to kill my 8 yr old tiefling druid because i was also the dm and i couldn't let the players off that bossfight without at least 1 death(don't worry, probably only half of you will die). I'm rambling and must depart. farewell!

Hello. I would love to join your game if possible and schedules align.
Experience: Veteran (since 3.5) Location/Timezone: Orlando, FL EST (GMT-5) Availability: Tuesday evenings (anywhere between 5pm and 3am EST) Preferred role: Player Game style: I prefer RP games over straight hack n' slash and like longer campaigns where characters are able to grow. I look forward to an entertaining and exciting campaign.
I've been playing for years and have played with several different groups over that time. Each one was a unique and cherished experience. I find the most fun in the game comes from when characters synergize and interact well with each other. And nothing is more memorable then coming up with an unexpected solution to a problem.
I have several ideas for characters and can fit most any role.
Fantastic! We're looking for a spellcaster or a tank. If you would rather you could do something else. If you want to meet everyone, we're doing a one shot next week and the week after (optional), then the campaign starts! looking forward to playing with you!

Feel free to contact me on my discord as i check that much more regularly than this sight. I normally play mages so i feel like I will fit the role of the party Wizard very well. I can start building the character whenever, just let me know the starting level.
Ok. Start at level 5. Unfortunately, I don't have discord.
You can do pretty much any race. With exotic races, think about how they might have got there (its a little costal subcontinent, blocked from everywhere else by a mountain ring. The humans run a trade-centered kingdom on the coast, and the dwarves mine the mountains behind them). If you play a dwarf you'll be discriminated against, but it would be an interesting point of narrative tension, particularly if you were from Silverspark. Racially, humans are most common in Tyral, but other races like elves and halflings aren't too out of place in Tyral, particularly in the port cities.
Your character has two magic items. One is an uncommon magic item of your choice. the other is an uncommon magic item of my choice (I spent an hour or so finding really random magic items that seem useless, but you should be able to use in tandem in groovy ways). Your item is a broom of flying.
If you want to meet everyone, one of the players is dming a one-shot next Tuesday at the normal time. One of the players who I haven't met will be there, along with the two players from the last campaign and myself. Its set in the world of MLP. The player has never DMed before. It's totally optional. The following Tuesday I'll be running a oneshot. Its either going to be the players request (Let everyone make ridiculously overpowered characters and then I get to try and kill them and we see how that goes because why not), or a campaign where everybody has a secret goal and are working on a quest together, but plan to betray one another at the last second because of their goals. I'm more interested in the second, but I know at least Connor really wants the first. I also know that connor doesn't mind his name being shared online. I don't know about anyone else, so I'll withhold their names until given permission(they might want to use aliases. I use my real name, but it isn't my legal name. I just haven't legally changed it yet.). You can choose what you want to do as far as online safety. The only thing you will need to share is your voice.)
This feels ramble-y. If it is, sorry. Main points of the last paragraph: there are a couple of one-shots that you can attend before the campaign starts. if you want to, it's a great chance to meet everyone. if not, that's cool too.
Plot stuff: the first half of the campaign is combat based. It will be challenging and you'll have to think outside the box or you'll lose very quickly. Then, once you've finished that, you'll be sent on a secret mission. but I can't tell you about that because spoilers. First half: intellignce-based fighting, second half: investigative roleplay. All connected.
Can't wait to play with you!

Sounds great. I'll begin building the character right away. I will be running an elven noble wizard with the chronomancer sub-class. As for starting ability scores, I'm going to assume standard array or point buy (I personally prefer point buy) unless you tell me otherwise. And as for hit points per level I'll assume average at level-up unless you tell me otherwise.
(The character I join with is listed as an evocation wizard because i don't have the DnD Beyond version of the book chronomancer is in. I have an actual physical copy though. Also, I'll be taking the Lucky feat at 4th level but again the DnD Beyond version will only let me select firearm specialist. As for my magic item I'll be choosing Arcane Grimoire +1 from Tasha's Guide to Everything but on the character sheet it will be a Wand of the War Mage +1.)
I generally do rolled, and if any of your roles are below 10 you have the option of rerolling all of them. The exceptions are things like fairies (who should have a strength score between 4 and 6 unless otherwise specified) and sometimes barbarians, because what fun is a barbarian with more than 8 int. Those are house rules though.
And ok. please try to keep your dnd beyond sheet as up-to-date as possible with stuff like inventory.
Your character will probably die several times. The tournament style has clerics on hand to cast revivify, butthere is a small chance things will go wrong and they'll have to cast reincarnate instead.
Also, we don't keep track of food or spell components. The tournament people are presumably feeding you. later on, we might start. Honestly, this is the first campaign I've run where I've had the chance to totally focus on dming (we've had so few players for so long that I had to play too, so I had to worry about arc and roleplaying and everything along with dm stuff), so I'm not quite sure what I'm capable of. Spell components are sometimes relevant in spells that are really expensive, but as far as stuff like sleep goes, I'm not going to make you keep track of if you have a cricket.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Where should I roll stats? For example, I could use the roller on this thread as follow:
13
16
14
14
12
15
This is just a test example i'll roll for real when you let me know how you want it.
(Also don't worry about it being your first time. Everyone has to start somewhere. Just take your time and if you have a question as to how things should work feel free to ask. I've been playing for a LONG time and while I could DM, I find it much more enjoyable to play. I'm good at playing a story, not telling one.)
Also, do you want me to make a noble system for your character to be born into or do you want to be involved in it? Are you an immigrant, or were your ancestors? if your ancestors were, how did they become nobility?
(I think the ruling class would be made up of merchants, with the king in charge of trade, so noble ancestors could have just been really good traders.)
Also, something to consider for your backstory: Did you know the princess? how did you feel about her? She is also presumed dead or imprisoned, which might upset you, or you might be thrilled because you thought she was a jerk. Who knows. But since the war is over her, your opinion of her is suddenly very important. Also, you would be aware of what was going on.
Don't forget the charisma bonus from being a Tyral citizen.

Oops, sorry, I didn't see your reply. Those rolls work. You can also use the d&d beyond roller or physical dice.
I've DMed before, but I was distracted by playing characters. The first game flopped because my players never came. then I've had three other games (all 5e), two of which concluded naturally. this will be my 5th game (dming). Its just my first not playing in the game that I'm doing. unless you count that one time when I was like 11 that I tried to dm and just read the entire book to my 'players'. It lasted all of one session. I was so proud of myself. but I don't count that. I pretend it never happened.
Oh! I knew I forgot to mention something- A warning. I have this thing called aphantasia. its awful. literally the only mental thing of mine that I hate (I embrace my depression and out of nowhere breakdowns!). Basiclly, I can't visualize stuff. Its like my imagination is blind. Which is ridiculous because I spend all my time writing or sketching or something creative. So, when you ask how far away is the enemy or the wall or something, I don't know. If we had minis on a real table, I could tell you, but I don't have a clue where anything is. I get around it with google jamboards and stuff, but a lot of the stuff most people would already be imagining, i just make up as i go because "yeah, the tavern would probably have a chair you could bash somebody's head in with. I guess." Really sorry about that.

Grandson of the current head of my house, and first born of his firstborn, I will eventually have to take up the role of leadership of my house. However, my thirst for adventure and knowledge has caused me to leave home on a journey to grow and experience the world. This thirst is common among my house (as many great adventurers have come from my house) and is typically referred to as The Wandering. I trained in wizardry from my father in my family's grand library. My curiosity has gotten me into trouble more than a few times and will most likely continue to do so.
The Levethix Clan: The Noble High Elven family Tianess is a part of. Founded by the love and respect between a Golden Dragon and a talented High Elf Maiden, the Levethix Clan is founded in the research and love of magic. Within the family there is no greater art than the crafting of a spell. Many great heroes (mostly wizards) have come from this family and from this the family has ties to many different and powerful organizations. It is said that the spirit of the gold dragon progenitor protects and leads them to this day. It was granted noble status in recognition of the many times members of the family fought to protect the realm.
I never met the princess personally so all I know of her is hearsay. As such I reserve my judgement on what to think of her, preferring not to fall prey of petty gossip. The fact she is missing however concerns me, simply because it is a tragedy whenever anyone goes missing be they royalty or peasant.
Hey, we all have our demons. I myself have fairly severe Asperger's Syndrome. Over the years I've taken steps to learn to live and work with it, but it is always there. As such, I would like to give fair warning that I might occasionally act without first thinking of how it will affect others. For this I apologize in advance and personally grant people permission to call me on it if they see me doing it (as I sometimes don't realize I am doing so and being called on it helps me keep it in check).
I'm going to go ahead and roll my physical dice for stats. Something about holding them in my hands feels right.
I have 6 years xp in DMing. Ilike to make things interesting by changing npc voices. I love homebrew content usage because it makes stories have flavor.
I would like to join

Honestly, this is the first campaign I've run where I've had the chance to totally focus on dming (we've had so few players for so long that I had to play too, so I had to worry about arc and roleplaying and everything along with dm stuff), so I'm not quite sure what I'm capable of. Spell components are sometimes relevant in spells that are really expensive, but as far as stuff like sleep goes, I'm not going to make you keep track of if you have a cricket.

So whats your backstory?

While I work on that, go ahead and let me know how you want me to roll for abilities.

Hi there. I am an 18-year-old Bisexual male.
I have 6 years xp in DMing. Ilike to make things interesting by changing npc voices. I love homebrew content usage because it makes stories have flavor.
I would like to join

That's fantastic!
Would you like to play a tank? If not, we might need a healer (we had someone say she would join but hasn't been responding to messages).
I think my conversations with jordanfears have all of the important information, but if you have any questions let me know.
I was just about to mak a private messages chat group for the campaign so I'll add you both.
